Blind blackhead? How can I coax it out

I've had this lump on my face for months now, and it's in an awkward place which makes it difficult to squeeze. When I do try squeezing it nothing comes out but I'm then left with an angry red spot for days. Then it heals and I get annoyed at feeling this big lump under the skin so I have a little tentative squeeze and the cycle starts again Sad

I haven't been able to take a good in focus photo of it sorry. It seems to have something grey/black within it but it doesn't look like a normal blackhead. I've tried holding a hot flannel on it before squeezing, and I've used a blackhead extraction tool. Is there anything else I can try to encourage it to the surface? Would someone like a beautician be able to remove it?

You need a pin, sterilised with a flame or some alcohol.

I don't even bother doing that tbh

Sterilised needle, give it a poke and a squeeze.
It's probably a tiny ingrown hair.

So I stuck a pin in it yesterday. I was so disappointed when all that came out was quite a bit of blood! But the lump has completely gone down now so I think it must have just been a collection of blood under the skin? 🤷‍♀️

Doesn’t look like a blackhead to me.

I agree, that doesn’t look like a blackhead.

PickAChew · 17/10/2021 00:27

Have you tried mag sulphate paste in it?

When I get spots like that, they tend to be the beginnings of cold sores but don't really last very long.

NomoreSmiggle · 17/10/2021 00:35

Is it a mole?

cosmopolitanplease · 26/10/2021 12:11

It's back again and I'm so fed up with it. I know that if I stick a pin in and squeeze it, blood will come out and it will go flat for a while then fill back up. Is there such thing as a blood filled lump? It's not sore, and it's definitely not a mole. The middle of it looks a bluey grey and it has what looks like a tiny thin vein around it.

I'm thinking of going to see a facialist or something, but I'm concerned I'll pay for her to just squeeze the blood out and for it to come back again. Does anyone have any ideas? I wish I could get a better photo but they just come out blurry.

It's very like a basal cell carcinoma. It's in the same place mine was. Leave it alone. A BCC has a good blood supply so if it was, it would bleed. Get a GP to refer you to a dermatologist.

cosmopolitanplease · 26/10/2021 12:56

Crikey I hope it's not that! It doesn't look like the pictures on google images. Would it go completely flat intermittently though? I don't think I can visit the gp with it, even if I could get an appointment. It isn't a lump that's grown gradually, and it empties and flattens if popped.

I hope you're recovered now.

@cosmopolitanplease Mine would change a lot. Flat, not flat, bleeding and scabbing over and healing only to start again. It was a rare one that could spread, so I'm lucky that my GP sent me to a dermatologist. A BCC can have a pearly spot or an open sore. Definitely get it looked at and don't rely on a cosmetologist. I had six inches cut out of my face. Better to be told it's just a blackhead than take a risk.
