Just out of surgery to have this bugger removed after several days of intense pain and even the doctors said it was surprisingly large. Can't quite believe this thing had been growing unnoticed till it decided to kick off on Saturday night

Gallbladder now all gone.

Bloody hell. That bugger is definitely better out!!

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 15/09/2021 18:34

I was in a LOT of pain @dane8 but because I'm more of a quiet 'breathe deeply and hope it goes away' kind of person when it comes to pain rather than a writhe and scream person, it took ages for A&E to believe I was at 9/10 on the pain scale and needed some goddamn drugs. It was only when they did a CT scan and saw the stone that they believed me and gave me something better than paracetamol.

Then the ultrasound and blood tests showed it was inflamed and infected so I started getting regular pain meds, regular antibiotics and a plan for removing the gallbladder. When I came round the first thing the doctor said was "you must have a high pain threshold because that stone is a monster" and then he took it to show off to the med students 😂

Ooh! Mine was 5cm x 5cm apparently. Gutted I didn't get to keep it (I did ask). Unfortunately it resulted in open surgery, which was no fun at all. Bizarrely the stone gave me no issues until a bout of cholecystitis which was quickly resolved, then surgery a few months later. It must have been growing for years. Gallbladder was a horrible infected mess though!

goose1964 · 15/09/2021 21:28

They wouldn't let me see mine 😠

Neolara · 16/09/2021 22:49

That's enormous! I had no idea gallstones could be so big.

Purplewithred · 16/09/2021 22:54

Spectacular!

stackhead · 16/09/2021 23:03

Currently lying awake with gallbladder pain and that's made me smile!

Fingers crossed mine comes out soon!

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 16/09/2021 23:06

Still in hospital, hoping they'll release me tomorrow, size of the stone and the fact it was totally blocking the bile duct meant the gallbladder ended up full of sludge and really inflamed so was stuck apparently and they had to rinse all my innards out and stick a drain in.

Won't let me go till the drain can be removed and my blood tests shows the inflammation markers are low enough for oral antibiotics to take care of instead of IV ones. Been here since Sunday and really missing my family and home, no visitors allowed, so just hanging out on the bed all day watching tv and surfing the web, with occasional wanders down hospital corridors.

Impressive @HalfShrunkMoreToGo you must be very proud 😊

Wishing you a speedy recovery. I hope you got to put your feet up and were waited on hand and foot after showing your family that.

Gaily2021 · 29/10/2021 09:03

Hi
How long did it take you to recover from this if you don’t mind me asking? I had two gallbladder ops to remove it & still have a bit of it stuck to my liver. Ended up similar with drains and being flushed out. Plus the IV antibiotics for five nights in hospital then another seven days tablet form at home….Had second OP sixteen days ago & expected to feel much better by now. I’m keeping moving and eating etc but still have pain in ribs probably from being stabbed politely twice lol. Any tips for a full recovery from this? Thank you x

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 29/10/2021 09:10

That is amazing!!
What is it made out of? - I second the making jewellery/ornament/candle holder out of it
You’d be able to say “look at my huge bastard gallstone” ALL the time!!

BrilloPaddy · 29/10/2021 09:17

Jesus wept, my gallbladder is wincing just looking at that.

I'd have that on the mantlepiece!

Mischance · 29/10/2021 09:20

Mine were smaller than that - size of 2 marbles. How the hell were you walking around with that inside!

Get well soon! Flowers

SuperPug · 29/10/2021 09:20

Did you have key hole surgery? How’s your recovery been?

TheVolturi · 29/10/2021 09:45

SilverOtter · 29/10/2021 09:49

That's amazing! Bet you feel so much better with that out!
