hello everyone. can someone explain to me why my abscess seems to be getting purple veins coming away from it? the purple veins seem to be growing and getting longer. I've had this abscess for 2 years now which was taken out but unfortunately has come back again and disperses every few weeks. the doctors keep giving me antibiotics for it which isn't helping but I do have an operation coming up in the next few months to take out my sinus. I'm worried about these vein looking things and I feel dizzy and nauseous as well. the veins started after days ago and getting longer day by day. I'm not sure what to do as my doctor is useless and keeps telling me to rest. any thoughts guys? anyone had this before?
I'm trying to upload photos but for some reason it won't let me.

also phone is not working properly and I've hopefully posted this in sporner corner 😅 if not I apologise.

Go to A &E because it sounds like the infection is spreading.
You need antibiotics, probably iv antibiotics.

KindleAndCake · 05/08/2021 15:14

Spreading infection? Draw a line around wear it is now, then see if it spreads further. If so, back to the docs or a and e?

even though you are not meant to look up stuff online- me being me I did but can't seem to find anything that describes what my abscess is doing. there is no red streak- just purple looking vein type things coming away from the abscess- they have been getting longer (slowly but surely) but I'm not sure if uts spreading or if its a vein that has been put under pressure because of the abscess and burst. I don't know

oh and I'm also on antibiotics already. been on them for 2 weeks trying to tackle this abscess but it's obviously not working. I keep being given antibiotics but they don't work. hence why I'm having an operation in the next few months to take this out

You've also got dizziness and nausea as symptoms, so you should definitely be seen by medics.

TheFormidableMrsC · 05/08/2021 15:29

Please please take yourself to A&E. You are risking sepsis. I lost my brother to that as he didn't recognise symptoms. If the infection is spreading as you describe you need IV antibiotics ASAP.

TwoBlueFish · 05/08/2021 15:30

Have you looked at Hidradenitis suppurativa

Hi OP. Can see from your other post, people are literally yelling ‘GO TO A&E’ now.

DogsSausages · 05/08/2021 16:06

We have all suggested you need to get this checked out in hospital, it's not really a corner issue, you have an open wound that needs treatment.

DogsSausages · 05/08/2021 16:09

Sporner, not corner obviously

SoddingWeddings · 05/08/2021 16:09

It sounds like tracking - classic sign of infection spread, next step could be sepsis.

If your GP won't see you this afternoon, it's definitely an A&E job.

willow1995 · 05/08/2021 17:21

thank you everyone.
I'm on my way to ane now to get it seen to. so hopefully they will do something about it.
is there any of symptoms that I should be looking out for for infection?

many thanks

How did you get on at A&E @willow1995?

willow1995 · 06/08/2021 10:45

apologies for not replying sooner. I've been given heavy duty antibiotics and antibiotic cream. I've been told to keep an eye on symptoms and if nothing changes or I get worse then to go back. they said the good thing is that the abscess seems to be discharging so hopefully the antibiotics will sort it. unfortunately the NHS are so over run at the moment, they are going to try and fit me in for it to be taken out. there was so many people in there when I went,
I'm worried because I don't want this to get worse- can oral antibiotics mask sepsis symptoms?
thank you for everyone replying to me x

In which case do not hesitate to go straight back. You might have caught A&E at a busy time.
