⛔️ Bit grim warning ⛔️

Last Sunday I was bitten by a load of mosquitoes while walking in some woods. Most of them are healing fine except this one on my thigh.

I went to see a pharmacist who says it looks like it is infected and I'll need antibiotics but she can't prescribe. Dr from 111 will ring me back this afternoon.

I don't like taking antibiotics, does this look infected? I've just taken an antihistamine.

It is maddeningly itchy, a bit raised and bumpy and the rash is growing. It doesn't hurt as such.

Yes it looks infected, I'm not keen on antibiotics either, but if a doctor thinks you need them, you should take them!

Imcatmum · 18/07/2021 16:07

Em, I think that needs seen. Looks like a bullseye, no? Could it be a tic bite?

DragonMamma · 18/07/2021 16:08

Looks like the bite you get with Lyme Disease?

SirYawnsAlot · 18/07/2021 16:09

Skeeter syndrome. I think I took anti-histamines for it.

Songsparrow · 18/07/2021 16:09

Looks more like a tick bite than a mosquito, look at bullseye rash of Lyme disease to compare

brizzlewizzle · 18/07/2021 16:11

Looks like a tick bite/Lyme disease but they don't normally itch. Don't panic if it is Lyme disease - you just need string antibiotics and you are lucky to have caught it

SirVixofVixHall · 18/07/2021 16:11

I think that could be a tick bite, and woodland is great tick habitat.
If it is a tick bite you need three weeks of antibiotics, don’t chance it, as Lyme’s disease can have a terrible impact on your health.

imaginethemdragons · 18/07/2021 16:13

Yeah I agree, looks very bulls eye any tick biteish.

Purplewithred · 18/07/2021 16:13

Have you considered drawing round the red bits? Helps assess whether it’s getting better or worse.

Tinselandlights · 18/07/2021 16:39

Thanks all - the GP called and has prescribed antibiotics, which I need to pick up at a nearby hospital.

I'm 90% sure it was a mosquito rather than a tick because there were quite a few flying around- we were walking in woodland and I was taking them off my DD.

I'd hate to get Lyme disease so I'm taking it seriously and going to get the antibiotics now!

Woodland is the place ticks like to be. I had a couple and they were the same size as a freckle. Only noticed because I thought it moved. Don’t know my eyes would see that now. Easy to miss a tick.
