What is this on my finger

Does anybody know what this lump on my finger could be? It's solid but mobile and looks like it's got fluid under the skin? I've had it a fair old while now but I think it's getting bigger and starting to affect my nail.

Do you write a lot, by hand?

Ignore me if that's your index finger. I have it on my middle finger, more so when I wrote a lot.

It looks like a ganglion I have one on my wrist, it comes and goes

Ganglion cyst. I had one by my wrist.

It could be a myxoid cyst. I've had these on a couple of fingers before, they're often linked to arthritis.

Thank you, do you think I need to refer it to the doctors or will it just go on its own. Its quite sore this morning cos I was poking and prodding it yesterday. 🙄

You can get ganglion cysts on any joint. I’ve got arthritis lumps on two of my finger joints but they aren’t mobile hence why I reckon it’s a ganglion. My ganglion went away after three months but mine was about 1.5” in diameter.

Could be a paronychia or a whitlow. I had the former and magnesium sulphate made it even worse, I had to get it drained under local anaesthetic. The swelling actually disfigured my nail!

I’ve got one and it’s deformed the nail. I have arthritis in my fingers and toes.

Please don’t hit it with something heavy! I had a ganglion cyst when I was younger and in a fit of drunken stupidity decided to get a friend to hit it with a very heavy book as an ‘experiment’. Ended up with a fracture and still had the cyst.

Thanks everyone, I think it's a myxoid cyst. That seems to fit most closely. I'll keep an eye on it and get myself to the doctors if necessary.
I won't be poking and prodding it again, cos that just made it very sore 🙄
