Help - what is this on my husband’s back?

Hi, Can anyone identify these marks on my husbands back. They’ve been there about a week, the 2 on the right appeared first, they didn’t come to a head, just sort of scabbed over. The others have now done the same, no spot although they all originally looked like that’s what they’d be.
He hasn’t scratched or bumped it. It’s a bit itchy but not hot. I’ve tried magnesium sulphate but it does draw anything out.
I’m a bit worried it might be sinister.
Any ideas!

Shingles?

ilovebagpuss · 11/03/2021 19:26

Is that all there is ? Not the start of shingles is it? They come up as little blisters but usually run in a line along a nerve.

MarchionessOfMayhem · 11/03/2021 19:28

Shingles

Whydidyouask · 11/03/2021 19:45

Oh I hadn’t thought of shingles. I’m not sure they’re in the right place if they follow a nerve - they’re on his right shoulder blade . I will have a google.
Thank you x

Looks like eczema to me - I get little random patches like this which sometimes scab because I've scratched them in the night

Bumblebee1980a · 11/03/2021 21:53

I have shingles at the moment - the worse has been and gone thankfully.

Anyway they are similar to the ones on my leg - I have 3/4 of them.

They looked like bites at first but now look very similar to your picture.

Any other symptoms?

PigletJohn · 11/03/2021 22:29

is it swollen with a hard-feeling lump?

If it is a carbuncle, the sooner he goes to the doc the better.

Ringworm?

It was swollen and lumpy underneath, not so much now the ‘spots’ have come to the surface. He needs to speak to the doctor but getting them to answer is next to impossible at the mo! Thanks for replying

Glad you’re on the mend. They did look like bites at first but as he hasn’t been anywhere for months and the dogs are flea’d regularly and no one else has any, I’m ruling bites out. He doesn’t have any other symptoms. He’ll try the doctors. Again 😤

Not eczema, my son has it so we know very well how it can present. Plus he can’t reach it to scratch. Thanks for replying x

Maybe a pharmacist could identify it. Not much they can do about it if it is shingles especially if its not bothering him too much

dementedpixie · 12/03/2021 14:31

You can get shingles anywhere in the body as there are nerves everywhere. When ds had it the rash was on one side of his chest and extended under his armpit to his shoulder blade

PigletJohn · 12/03/2021 14:46

what size is it?

Zovirax might help, but if it is shingles I think you need the prescription version.

Are you going to get it diagnosed?

Thanks.

Yes we rules out fleas too because of that.

I had the rash on my leg for a while before the symptoms developed.

Just to give you my experience in case it is shingles. Symptoms for me were shooting pains through the left side of my body (rash was on left leg), a bit of confusion, loss of appetite, lightheadedness, and feeling very fatigued. The rash still hurts on and off now.

Instead of a face to face appointment I spoke to my doctors on the phone and they sent me a link and I sent pictures to them. Maybe that's an option for your husband if he can't get an appointment.

Good luck.

It’s about the size of a 10p. He’s called the docs, they’ve not called back yet. (Last call could be 6pm). I’ve got some Zovirax so I’ll put that on, thanks, that’s a good idea.

What has the doctor said OP?

CanIHaveAHolidayPlease · 24/03/2021 10:17

Hi can I ask whether you got a diagnosis for this? My DP had these last summer. We never went to the GP as he gets bitten all the time during the summer months so assumed it was that.
Thanks
