Who wants to see what I extracted from ds's very blocked ears today? It is a sad reflection on my life that this made me happy

My DS1 had lots of ear problems when he was little, saw ENT consultant, he looked in his ears, next minute he was gowned up, and poking a tiny very flexible hook in DS’ ear, the lumps of wax he pulled out was black like coal, and there was such a lot of it, I couldn’t believe my eyes.

QueenOfCatan · 23/02/2021 20:28

Olive oil is your friend here, dd1 had something going on with her ears a few months back, one was completely blocked, a few nights of olive oil dropped in and out came out in clumps every morning. Sooo satisfying!

TootDeLaFroot · 23/02/2021 20:31

I've just bought an ear squirter from Amazon to do mine after a couple of days of olive oil. Cannot wait 😁

fluckityfluckfluck · 23/02/2021 20:34

I've been doing warm olive oil twice a day since Saturday! That's the first that's come out

Impressive haul

TheSpottedZebra · 23/02/2021 20:34

You should both be very proud of that.

And I am very jealous of that.

Stop poking his ears! Book micro suction or ear syringe at the GP surgery

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 23/02/2021 20:37

Ooh nothing better than getting that much out!!

fluckityfluckfluck · 23/02/2021 20:38

Nothing went in his ear! I used the bud to eek it out - it was at the edge

The GP won't do anything until I've used drops etc for two weeks I was there last Friday

Kirby grip the round end hooks bits on the edge nicely

rossogingerale · 23/02/2021 20:48

I would be over the moon to get that! Myself and my DS ears are rubbish, my DH & DD ears are amazing, my DH's is that colour and my DD is amber coloured.

But my DS is about to hit puberty, so is getting big blackhead spots, oooh they are so good!

Yes!!! Kirby grips were made for ears, just perfect. I once pushed too far in and made my ear bleed, not a good move.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 23/02/2021 21:00

I pull similar out. I call it marmite factory.

Since the swimming lessons stopped it’s really bad. The water must wash it all out.

I don’t poke anything in, sort of sweep around the outside and it wraps around the cotton bud. I’d love to delve in, but I’m worried about pushing it in further.

Ohdoleavemealone · 23/02/2021 21:07

Beautiful. My kids hate that I pick at their ears all the time. Won't let me near them anymore. DD does occasionally as hers get really full but it is rare.

Beautiful3 · 23/02/2021 21:30

Wow that's huge! Olive oil for the ears would be good. Keep using oil and more should come out. Those ear buds arent safe to use.

NHS has declared that this is no longer a core treatment so gps no longer doing it. I’m currently using Otex in very blocked ears and waiting to see what I will be offered when, as is likely, the wax fails to come out. It used to be so simple!

Yeah, and there are the little scabby bits that we "don't" try and get when that happens

Yep I definitely do this either. Honest.
