Coughed up a waxy, nasty ball 🤢 I've had a look and now have a gaping hole in my tonsil full of gunk. Never had this before, how on earth do I get rid? (And stop this happening again!) photo is the ball that disintegrated getting it on the tissue, and the cotton bud was an attempted excavation.

Do they smell foul?
I used to get these. Try a course of corsidyl antibacterial mouthwash and then regular mouth wash afterwards.

I think regular excavation is needed with holey tonsils. I have hem too and I'm paranoid about them. They smell awful.

Also a tongue scrapper and general good oral hygiene keeps them at bay but doesn't prevent them IME

Yes it's tonsil stones Halloween Envy I try to use a water pick flosser on mine.

😱 I'm horrified 😂 they do smell awful - I haven't had bad breath, I'm hoping this hasn't opened up and starts it 😭

Oral hygiene wise, I use an electric toothbrush, floss (most of the time 😬) mouthwash. I brush my tongue, but should I get a scraper also? I had a bad case of hand foot and mouth at the beginning of the year, the blisters on my throat have seemed to make my tonsils extra... 'textured' after they healed.

Gargle too it helps shift them

I really recommend a tonsil stone removal kit from amazon. If you get the curved water syringe right into the pits you’ll be amazed at how many stones get flushed out

I read online reviews about this stuff being good for keeping tonsil stones at bay, I just couldn’t justify the cost. My tonsil stones only appear when I’ve been a bit lax about flossing though.
