GP prescribed antibiotics for an inflamed oblong bump under my breast, slight fever. Ititially was a bit sore/itchy/tingly/throbbing. Now I'm wondering if it could be shingles - ? Today it itches like mad, right down to my last rib and across to the other breast.

'Ititially' lol, meant to say initially.

it certainly looks a bit blistery

has it crossed sides when you say it's to the other side...shingles is supposed to follow a nerve and should stick to one side. Not sure if that's an old wive's tale though

pawpawpawpaw · 04/06/2020 21:57

I don't think there's anything to see on the other side, it's just that the itchy area is much bigger than the visibly inflamed area if that makes sense.

Looks like shingles to me OP. I had it in the same place a few years back. Started as back ache then woke up next day to the rash. Worst part was having to put a bra on, and it was so painful!

sproutsandparsnips · 06/06/2020 01:02

Another vote for shingles. The distribution sounds typical. Sorry op hope it feels better soon!

saveeno · 06/06/2020 01:04

Could be an insect bite. Take some anti histamines aswell.

Shingles give you the pain from hell. Itchy doesn't come near it.

Hope you feel better soon anyway.

I did take an antihistamine in the hope that it was some kind of bite but it didn't help with itching or inflammation. It's not obvious in the pic but there was a big ring of inflamed skin around the mark itself and my whole chest has been intensely itchy.
When it came on I had my bra on so if it was an insect it would have been in my bra (cue a repressed memory of finding a spider in my bra during a pub lunch years ago).
Not much change today though the itch seems a bit better.
If it's just a bite I'll feel a bit of an idiot making a fuss about it.

How's the inflammation today pawpaw?

Hope you are feeling a bit better. Never feel like an idiot with things like this, they can go very bad quite quickly. You were quite right to see the doctor.

Thanks for that, when my mum had breast cancer her first symptom was irritation so I didn’t hang about (though I did already have an appointment for something completely unrelated which was handy). I actually thought it might be a boil though I don’t think that now.
Not bad today, not much different, a bit crawly and sore but not as intensely itchy as yesterday.

It absolutely CAN be a way that Inflammatory breast cancer presents. Please insist to the GP that you are referred on the two week pathway.

Anyone want to guess what this is?
pawpawpawpaw · 07/06/2020 12:24

Yes, and not just inflammatory bc. My mum had invasive ductal carcinoma and for about a week she thought her new bra was irritating her skin. She went to the doctor when her nipple became distorted. The mammogram she'd had three months before was entirely clear and they couldn't see the tumour on the diagnostic mammo. I think we imagine that symptoms/diagnosis are more straightforward than they sometimes are.
I'll ring the gp in the morning.
