What did that???!!!

Atalune · 18/04/2020 09:25

How are you this morning?

ConcentricCircles · 18/04/2020 11:24

Another bite has surfaced overnight making 3 beauties in total. My leg is red, itchy, painful and swollen from knee to ankle so am off to the pharmacy and see what they say first.

Sounds like,you need antibiotics.

SistemaAddict · 18/04/2020 11:55

IV antibiotics I think as sounds like cellulitis. Hope you're better soon

DobbyTheHouseElk · 18/04/2020 12:05

If and when I get these I need antibiotics.

Pieceofpurplesky · 18/04/2020 12:06

Horse fly or spider bite

tiredanddangerous · 18/04/2020 12:08

It does indeed look like a horsefly bite. It’ll pop all over your bed and make a hell of a mess (voice of experience!)

I hope the pharmacist says it’s ok Flowers

ConcentricCircles · 18/04/2020 17:20

The pharmacist sent me straight to A&E, and after a couple of hours wait was given antiB's and steroid cream. Brilliant care by brilliant people. Thank you NHS.

The pain and itching is insane and to be honest when I got back home I really didn't feel well and fell asleep.

The bite near my ankle is apparently 8 bites all clustered together. I can't bear anything touching my leg so am sat in shorts with a cold blow fan going.

The joys of gardening eh!

Blandford fly. No question. Awful things

DonLewis · 18/04/2020 17:27

Oh you poor thing, that looked sore, not surprised you ended up in A&E.

Rest up.

Atalune · 18/04/2020 23:28

That sounds tough. Hope you feel better soon

Passmethecrisps · 18/04/2020 23:36

Yikes!!

This post is bringing back memories of coming back from a lovely holiday and having a sensation of my lower calf stiffening up. I started off with a wee blister which then grew overnight to something enormous. It was so huge that I couldn’t flex my ankle without it feeling like it would tear.

I went to the GP who chickened out of dealing with it himself and sent me to minor injuries. The nurse took scissors and basically cut the top off then whacked an alcohol pad on it. It was absolute fucking agony.

I then had weeks of dressings and it weeping through my tights.

So. You have my greatest sympathy!! I always thought I might have been overreacting but the stories shared on here have reassured me.

I hope yours gets better very soon.

ConcentricCircles · 19/04/2020 20:25

What a day!

I felt so exhausted most of today thanks to the volcanic heat - like itching on my leg, and so kept falling asleep here and there.

The good news is that the dome-like bite is now deflating, as is my leg, but is still intact, but the ankle - of which the attached image is of - is murderous. It has bruising of around 3" x 3", my ankle has totally vanished, and there are many tiny, crusty blister bites throughout this area. At one point I just had to scratch the area of skin around it and it made me feel quite dizzy.

At least no more have made their selves known!

@chatterbugmegastar - I googled the blandford fly, I don't think I've had the pleasure of it's aquaintance, luckily....looks truly awful.

@Passmethecrisps - I read your tale of woe just before I had my tea .......lovely!

Thank you all for your sympathy, tis much appreciated...... I shall now go make myself a cuppa to go with it!

I'd try an antihistamine. That looks bloody sore. You poor thing.

DoTheNextRightThing · 19/04/2020 22:58

Deary me OP! I feel your pain - though not quite as severely! I'm allergic to midge bites and I seem to attract them like a beacon. I get bitten all the time and swell up like a balloon with massive itchy blisters everywhere. My record was 27 bites at once a few years back! I distinctly remember sitting on the floor with both legs fully caked in sudacrem like Ross' paste pants from Friends 😂 I hate bitey bugs!! Just an inconvenience nobody needs.

Glad you are on the mend now! It sounds horrible 😨

NChangeForNoReason · 19/04/2020 23:09

Didn't want to read and run ... hope it feels better soon!!

Songsparrow · 22/04/2020 02:00

Poor you. I used to get this reaction when I was younger. That last picture you posted, if you can avoid scratching it, will eventually coalesce into the blister thing up thread. Then under no circumstances do anything to it until all the red border has disappeared. I had a huge crater in my foot from one I got in Italy once. And always on feet/legs, they didn’t have the same effect elsewhere on the body.
Luckily I grew out of them!

ShakespearesSisters · 13/05/2020 22:44

Ouch, hope you are fully recovered now.

understandmenow · 15/05/2020 15:57

Ouch!!
