What is this and should I be worried?

So...about 10 years ago I had a huge boil on my chest. It was horrid, but eventually it healed and I was left with a large lump about an inch across. It never bothered me until about a week ago, when I noticed it had turned slightly red and was a but sore. Then yesterday I noticed a horrid smell that seemed to follow me about...it's the lump! It's completely covered in skin so whatever's in there must be pretty pungent. I have a GP appointment next week but not until Thursday as I'm out of the country with work until then. Should I be worried that I won't be getting medical attention until then? And what on earth is this thing on my chest??

Not at this stage, no! I've been covering it in sudocreme and doing hot compresses to no avail...

If it's a cyst and you didn't get the sack out last time then they can come back. Do you watch Dr Pimple Popper and other such spot doctors on YouTube? They get rid of them. As that has no head on it I wouldn't keep squeezing it as you'll just hurt yourself.

It may have got infected hence the redness - a course of AB will help to sort it. Then get the cyst removed properly (e.g. I bet it's not done on the NHS).

Some GPs who are trained to do minor surgery will aspirate and excise something like that.

Thought I'd give a quick update...I ended up going to the out of hours GP on Sunday as the pain was getting bad and was prescribed antibiotics, and off I went on my business trip...big mistake!!! I was very ill on the Monday night, in serious pain and feverish. Managed somehow to get through a full day of meetings on Tuesday and the flight home and went straight to hospital. I was admitted, put straight on IV antibiotics. On Wednesday I developed sepsis after a (excruciating) needle aspiration, which they were obviously able to catch and treat almost immeadiately. Finally drained the fucker under general anaesthetic on Thursday and discharged Friday night feeling like I'd been hit by a 2 ton truck! I have a deep wound which will need daily packing and dressing.
Lesson: if it smells, get to a doctor and don't leave the country until it's gone.
