I did a thing that I might regret..

I just used a waterpik water flosser to blast out the impacted wax out of my ear!!! What came out was about the size of my pinky nail up to my finger.. I'm otexing the other ear as I type

I have gone deaf in one ear due to a cold and generally minging ears anyway.. I managed to get a bit of hearing back in my right ear thank god! But I've struggled since Friday to not actually being able to hear anything at all!

So I bought some otex ear drops from amazon and left them in for 20 mins.

Now this is where I need to use a disclaimer.. I am a nurse and I used my judgement / I was fucking desperate! I also had a fairly good idea my ear drums were not perforated just full of wax! I am trained in ear syringing at work.. so I improvised!

Fuck me it's amazing!!

Oh that sounds genuinely wonderful. I’m very jealous, I can just imagine the relief

NewYoiker · 29/10/2019 01:38

@FelicityBeedle it was glorious!! Just waiting for the other ear to stop popping before I go and do it all over again!! I was so shocked at the size of it! So good to have the pressure relieved!!

I tentatively tried this once. The noise gave me such a fright (whodathunk it'd be so much louder inside your ear? Hmm ) I dropped the flosser and never tried it again Grin

NewYoiker · 29/10/2019 01:43

@Sparklfairy haha! It is loud! But essentially it is exactly the same as the equipment we use at work just minus the lovely bowl to catch it! 🤢 hmm right ear is still cracking a lot. Might wait a bit longer

I can hear!!! The blob from the right ear was a lot smaller than the left one but I didn't get a photo of that one Sad however this just came rocketing out of my right ear and now I don't have any sinus pain or pressure 🙌

I did a thing that I might regret..

"I'm a nurse trained in ear syringing" is a pretty huge disclaimer! For anyone else, don't try it at home!

NewYoiker · 29/10/2019 02:26

@BadSun hahaha!! Yeah pretty much!!! But it feels amazing and I can hear again! I'll cancel the nurse appointment now that I made yesterday for January as that's the earliest they could fit me in!!

I'm two weeks from my appt. and half deaf in one ear so I'm just a bit jealous. Grumble grumble

NewYoiker · 29/10/2019 02:31

Try otex drops! Or olive oil just try and get it soft.. have you had it done before? It can make you feel a bit dizzy and sick as it shifts...

If you're really desperate and wiling to pay some branches of spec savers do ear hoovering which is far quicker and less weird feeling. But £50 a pop however they usually fit you in that day.

Our GP's surgery is cancelling ear syringing. What did you use? I have no idea what it is ? Glad you found some relief.

Seahorseshoe · 29/10/2019 04:01

Just googled it - I had no idea of their existence.

S0upertrooper · 29/10/2019 05:15

I once had a good dig in my ear and I pulled out what I can only describe as a miniature roll of papyrus. It was fascinating but took me ages to realise it was wax.

NewYoiker · 29/10/2019 12:40

Well I can confirm I can hear!!

I feel like I might have been really deaf for ages and not noticed!

We’ve got an audiologist where I live.

DD was having sore ears and we were due to go on holiday, but the pharmacist couldn’t offer any help (apart from cal poly etc) but suggested that the audiologist might have a look to see if her ear drum was infected.

So off we go.

So helpful

Got the camera in DDs ears, nothing alarming. Some dried skin and a bit of wax.

I was told to not touch :/

Then she said shall we look in mummy’s ears.

Ooh yes says I.

Well I got a bollocking for cleaning my ears 😂

NewYoiker · 06/11/2019 06:53

Well nearly a week on and I can still hear :) no ill effects!
