Ick take a look at this beauty!

Poor DH is in agony. I think we might be taking a trip somewhere tomorrow to get it lanced and antibiotics.

Eesh, that looks painful! How long has it been like that?

Watto1 · 30/12/2018 21:47

Ooh! Now, my gran would have put a bread poultice on that. I had something similar as a child and the bread poultice worked a treat! Have a Google.

Dimedollar · 30/12/2018 21:48

Since Friday, I tried to make him go today but he wouldn't. We have no walk in centre here and the gp doesn't do procedures, so would need to be a&e.

CMOTDibbler · 30/12/2018 21:54

I'd get that in some hot salty water in the meantime!

hewhinessoshewines · 30/12/2018 21:56

Ouch

Dimedollar · 30/12/2018 21:57

@Watto1 thanks I have googled it and his finger now has a bread poultice!

Will try salty water next.

I think it might be called a whitlow. Anyway, mine was treated with (mag sulphate? White and sticky and for ‘drawing’) paste and waiting until poppable. GP wouldn’t pop it, nor would MIU, so I ended up in A&E minors (which felt like a waste of their time, but I’d exhausted all other options) to be told to come back in a few days when it was poppable. It was surprisingly painful.

PotteringAlong · 30/12/2018 21:58

That looks horribly painful. I’d definitely have that in hot salty water right now! And Dr’s tomorrow.

Bostin · 30/12/2018 21:59

I’m not sure about that black looking bit...not a good sign?

DangoDays · 30/12/2018 22:02

Ooh what a project! Of course poor DH! But do give an update on progress...

Thinkaboutitcarefully · 30/12/2018 22:03

My MIL had something similar. She used salt water and was told by nurse that this was a big mistake and made it worse. Lost a lot of skin from her finger.

Oddcat · 30/12/2018 22:04

Sterilise a needle and poke it down the side of the nail just under the cuticle- I did this to dd , it gave her immediate relief —and I enjoyed it—

Dimedollar · 30/12/2018 22:09

The black bit is just a line I drew on so I could monitor the redness, don't worry!

He had a poke with a needle earlier, but couldn't get anything out 😬.

He said the bread thing has stopped it throbbing as much.

Dimedollar · 30/12/2018 22:13

We've tried drawing ointment today, found some from when ds got a cactus stuck in his foot!

DH would be mortified if he knew I was sharing his poorly finger.

OP posts:
SweetAngie · 30/12/2018 22:13

What actually caused it?

costacoffeecup · 30/12/2018 22:16

Blatantly place marking to see if the bread poultice makes it pop (rubs thighs)

Dimedollar · 30/12/2018 22:16

Biting his fingernails 🙄

sabrinathethirtysomethingwitch · 30/12/2018 22:18

This happened me. It was eye wateringly sore. I popped it with a sterilised needle. The relief was immense. However it kept filling back up. Bread poultice worked a treat.

weasle · 30/12/2018 22:19

It's a paronychia. Very painful! It needs a needle decompression and he'll feel better almost straight away. Your local urgent care centre will be able to do it. Often not too busy on a Sunday night or Monday morning.

SpoonBlender · 30/12/2018 22:25

Use it as a teaching aid for any DCs who bite their nails!

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 30/12/2018 22:26

My sil had this, she had to have ab, but it got a lot...greener and the nail went soggy. We gave it a good soak in hot water then I stabbed it with a sterile needle. Honestly a huge chunk of goo hit the mirror. Immediate relief.

Dimedollar · 31/12/2018 15:09

Pus now released, sorry thought I best not take pics. It was good though!

We were seen really quickly but had to stay in a few hours, as they put him on a drip as his blood pressure was 85/60. All back to normal now.

He has promised to never bite a nail again.

No pics?! 😁

Glad it’s all sorted OP.

flimp · 31/12/2018 15:42

You thought you'd better not take pics wtf??? Shock

What are you even doing here woman?! Pfft

Dimedollar · 31/12/2018 22:29

Sorry! I just couldn't bring myself to ask the nurse to move over a little, so I could get a clear picture Grin
