Boil on inner thigh.

I've got a really sore boil on my inner thigh. Feels like it's over an inch wide under the skin. Hasn't got a head but it needs to go soon as it's quite painful. What is best to get rid?
Thanks in advance for any help

Hot bath, hot flannel should bring a head to it, is it painful? I had one once and couldn't sit down and required antibiotics and soon burst x

Sorry you said it's painful! Take some paracetamol for the pain out of hours GP if it gets worse?

Gersemi · 05/10/2018 18:55

Magnesium sulphate paste.

Foodylicious · 05/10/2018 18:56

Sounds like it's developed in to more of an abcess than a boil.

Best thing for it is GP at this stage.

They may be able to safely lance it for you at this stage and/or give you antibiotics.

Get seen tomorrow if you can!

How you feeling in yourself? Any temp?

BoilOnInnerThigh · 05/10/2018 18:56

Going to try the hot bath and cloth. It hurt but hurts a lot more since I tried to squeeze it.

Can you get magnesium sulphate over the counter? I could nip to the chemists and put it on after a hot bath.
I'm feeling ok, no temperature, just a little queasy after the squeezing

Perhaps research a castor oil compress if the hot flannel does not work?

BoilOnInnerThigh · 05/10/2018 20:32

Well, I’ve been to two chemists and neither had magnesium sulphate. I’ve had a red hot bath, a hot cloth on it and I’m now sitting with a very hot, hot water bottle on it.

If I can’t get rid of it tonight, is it something the walk in centre would look at or should I wait until next week for a doctors appointment?

I'm a nurse, and whilst it gives me great pleasure to Lance the hell out of abscesses I do think you need to see a doctor for this one x

Get a tub of Epsom salts and bung half onto the drum of your washing machine and stick it on a hot wash. I get them and the Staphylococcus gets in the washing machine.

I just tend to germolone them until it goes away. But I'm not into sporn, no squeezing.

If it's particularly bothersome you might need to get it looked at. Some can turn nasty.

Foodylicious · 05/10/2018 20:37

Don't squeeze it if it feels bigger inside/under the skin.
All you will be doing is stretching it inside and making it less likely to come to a head.

You also risk bursting the capsid internally and pushing the infection in to the surrounding area.

From your description I would want to see a GP tomorrow, unless it comes to a head overnight.

Put vicks on it and cover it with a dressing.
