Help. Cyst (I think) has suddenly gotten painful.

I've had (what I think) is a cyst on my back for years. Every so often DH will squeeze it and clear it out, then it's fine for ages. About a month ago he got loads of out it, far more than usual. He was very pleased with himself! Yesterday evening it suddenly started feeling bruised and hard, and now feels itchy. Would have to happen right before Christmas so I can't just book an appointment with the GP. What do I do with it?

Does it look inflamed? Could be infected if so. Maybe ring 111 and get an out of hours appt if you're worried. Failing that, hot compress?

No, not inflamed. It's not hot, swollen, or tender, just bruised feeling, and hard under the skin. I don't know that I'd manage to keep a hot compress on, I can only just reach it myself. Sounds like maybe a long soak in the bath may be needed!

Has the bruised feeling only just started? I wonder if DH squeezed quite a bit harder than usual a month ago and bruised you quite deeply.
Agree hot compress and some paracetamol and ibuprofen.
