Having a baby can often be challenging, and weaning your baby is one of many confusing but rewarding parenting milestones. HiPP Organic would like you to ask their expert, Helen Gardiner - your questions about weaning.

Some more information on Helen below:

“Helen is a registered nutritionist and dietician who has worked with HiPP for nearly 19 years advising on a wide range of issues related to infant and child nutrition. She provides support and advice to parents, carers and other healthcare professionals through HiPP customer services and their social media and websites.”

So, ask Helen your questions about weaning by posting them below by 13th November. We’ll then choose 20 questions for her to answer and post her responses as soon as possible. All who leave a question below (regardless of whether it’s chosen or not) will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £150 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Do you have any tips on building my confidence with giving my 6.5 month old finger foods? I worry about choking when pieces of food break off whatever she’s chewing.

milliemoon · 12/11/2017 19:54

My little one will only actually eat a tiny bit, preferring to play with her food. Is it true that before 12 months they get most their nutrients from milk or should I be more persistent?

Lasplin84 · 12/11/2017 20:58

If my baby refuses a meal should i offer something else? Or shpuld i leave it until the next meal?

baconbap · 12/11/2017 21:10

How old do babies have to be before honey is not a problem?

babyloi · 12/11/2017 22:17

At what age should you be concerned your little one is not moving on from purees? Is there anything you can do to help them gagging at every tiny bit of texture?

Dan35 · 12/11/2017 23:05

When should you introduce food that could potentially cause allergies?

lastkisstoo · 13/11/2017 01:00

What do you do when your strong willed baby refuses anything from the spoon? She will only eat solid things that she can hold or pick up herself and she can't manage cutlery yet.

cluckyhen · 13/11/2017 10:38

When should you introduce lumpy foods?

Jade5093 · 13/11/2017 10:48

Any difference or preference to going with baby led weaning ?

myboycraig · 13/11/2017 11:14

My wee cherub loves bananas and pears which I have been giving alternate days for breakfast, either on own or mixed with porridge . I have just realised after looking at sugar content of small bananas that there is nearly 14g of sugar in a small banana Shock. Should I be giving these fruits to my baby?

lucyrobinson · 13/11/2017 12:03

Are there certain foods that are a no no when you start to wean.

molly57 · 13/11/2017 13:30

When is the best time to start weaning?

tishist · 13/11/2017 14:38

What is the general verdict on introducing different food elements like spices and other strong flavours as I'd once heard it's a good idea to widen the palate from an early age.

noynoyavery · 13/11/2017 15:15

If 6 months is the age to aim for and has been for a great deal of years , why do people still start before even 17 weeks? Is it tradition , not knowing what to do, because thier parents did it and they turned out just fine?

sarahw2 · 13/11/2017 17:50

How long should the 'transition period' be from starting to offer solids as well as milk, to exclusively solid feeding?

robyn297 · 13/11/2017 22:47

I know you need to avoid honey in the first 2 years, but is it ok if its been cooked? like in flapjacks?

Azra12 · 15/11/2017 10:08

My baby's 26 weeks this week and I took him to the Health Visitor for routine weight check and she told me to not start weaning him for another few weeks, should I actually wait that long?
