Having a baby can often be challenging, and weaning your baby is one of many confusing but rewarding parenting milestones. HiPP Organic would like you to ask their expert, Helen Gardiner - your questions about weaning.

Some more information on Helen below:

“Helen is a registered nutritionist and dietician who has worked with HiPP for nearly 19 years advising on a wide range of issues related to infant and child nutrition. She provides support and advice to parents, carers and other healthcare professionals through HiPP customer services and their social media and websites.”

So, ask Helen your questions about weaning by posting them below by 13th November. We’ll then choose 20 questions for her to answer and post her responses as soon as possible. All who leave a question below (regardless of whether it’s chosen or not) will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £150 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

There seems to be so much conflicting stuff around, but my biggest fear is choking, particularly when offering the stage beyond puree. Which foods are best avoided?

TheKnackeredChef · 07/11/2017 10:16

What's the advice on baby led weaning these days? We did it with our youngest and he's now the most atrociously picky eater. I'm sure it's connected as my older ones are fine!

MrsFrTedCrilly · 07/11/2017 11:11

Is it better to wean traditionally with puréed food or to do the baby led weaning with bigger textures? Or do you recommend combining both approaches?

chewiecat · 07/11/2017 13:05

We have gone down the baby led weaning route and seems to be very messy so far! What are the advantages or disadvantages of not offering purée?

UpOnDown · 07/11/2017 13:11

What foods should we start with?

malisa · 07/11/2017 13:22

I started weaning and for me best works to use packed baby food such as baby rice and dried meals. Previously I used jars and noticed a lot of food get wasted because of small quantities my daughter eats. Could I store rest of jar in freezer?

There are many differing ideas on when to start weaning. Four weeks or six weeks or later. Which is now the most advised age to start weaning?

missymousey · 07/11/2017 21:07

DH is obsessed with cod liver oil. He insists on us both taking it in capsule form and now wants to give it to DS 7mths. Is this a good idea? Is it even safe for a baby?

JennyLane · 07/11/2017 23:40

@Kion I hope your baby gets used to it soon too!
We've had some success liquidising some of our own food in recent days. But it's strange for us after having two happily baby led weaning kids

tabbaz123 · 08/11/2017 06:39

The advise about weaning changes so regularly. We understand that it is best to wait until baby is 6 months old in order to give the stomach time to develop properly but does this not vary on size of baby too and if baby is premature should you wait even longer ?

Popcornandbuttons · 08/11/2017 07:44

What is the best way to try and drop some milk feeds during the day and supplement for snacks? Should cows milk be offered in a cup (once 12 Months) with a snack or as a separate thing?

SimoneOfHouseDavies · 08/11/2017 10:07

I'm planning to do baby led weaning with ds2 when he's old enough, what are the best foods to start with? Ds 1 I weaned with purees and he has been a terrible fussy eater, only recently have we got him to start eating properly (age 6). Dd (9) was baby led weaned at nursery and has always been a fantastic eater so I want to do it myself with ds2. Thanks!
