With the internet and TV playing host to such a broad range of voices and opinions, there’s no limit to the amount of information you can find about children’s nutrition at the touch of a button. But with so much information out there, it can be difficult to know who to trust. So, Birds Eye have asked children’s nutrition expert, Lauren Woodley, to answer some of your questions and hopefully help to make tea time slightly less stressful.

Here’s what they have to say: ‘Tea time can be the most stressful part of the day when you have a family to feed and coming up with nutritious and tasty meals that your DCs will enjoy is not easy. That’s why Birds Eye frozen chicken is always made with 100% chicken breast, barn-reared chickens and no artificial colours, flavours and preservatives. We’ve enlisted the help of nutritionist Lauren Woodley to answer some of your questions, and hopefully make tea time that bit easier!’

Post any questions you have about the nutritional value of the foods you give your children on the thread below and we’ll choose 20 for Lauren to answer. Everyone who posts their questions will be entered into a prize draw for a £150 of their choice (from a list).

Here’s some information about Lauren Woodley:

‘Lauren Woodley is a registered nutritionist working for Birds Eye. She holds an accredited Nutrition BSc, and has had a career as an industry nutritionist for the past five years. Lauren is especially passionate about nutrition education, demystifying nutrition science and translating it into simple, consumer-friendly messages.’

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw,

My son love fish finger is ok to eat 4-5 times a week?

stabbybitch · 27/04/2017 12:06

My toddler will not eat any fruit, and never has done. We have tried them all, Dried fruit is also a no go. Nutritionally is this a problem? If so do you have any ideas on how to get him to eat them?

My six year old has a huge appetite, to the point where she would just eat and eat all day long if I let her. I generally let her snack as much as she wants as long as it's just fruit and the occasional bit of malt loaf or yoghurt or something. She still eats good meals and is a healthy weight. Is it ok to allow as much healthy snacking as she wants or should I be limiting her a bit more?

Just how bad are the bread and batter coatings on prepared chicken? How about frozen oven chips?

suilaruin · 28/04/2017 07:41

What's the best way to measure portion sizes for toddler meals?

dragonfly63 · 28/04/2017 12:30

My sixteen month old granddaughter loves food - any food. She is not given very salty food or sugary foods but has a wide variety of everything else. She almost seems to want to carry on eating every meal time, she is not overweight at present but will she end up with a weight problem and do we need to closely monitor her food intake or does her little body regulate the amount she needs??

I struggle to get my autistic toddler to eat fruit. He eats vegetables though. Will this be doing him any harm?

Wauden · 29/04/2017 17:04

I've heard that iodine is important for the thyroid. It occurs in seaweed etc; what is the best way to get teenagers to eat it?

Sleepysausage · 29/04/2017 18:14

Is fish fingers and frozen veg a balanced meal ?

EasterRobin · 29/04/2017 21:30

If it was up to her, my DD would eat nothing but pasta. Between home and nursery, I reckon she must have 6-7 pasta meals a week. Is this unhealthy?

Natsai1 · 29/04/2017 21:49

My 21month old only eats small portions (2-4 spoonful or few bites of food) each meal. I'm worried that he's not getting enough nutrition and resort to topping him up with milk. What portion size is ok for a toddler his age?

daisyduke66 · 30/04/2017 09:24

In your opinion what is a good ratio of red meat to white for a healthy balanced diet?

Annimousey · 30/04/2017 20:50

My 2 year old has suddenly become very fussy and food he used to love he now refuses to eat. I'm worried he's not getting enough food. Do you have any tips on how to get him to eat, or is it a losing battle?

del2929 · 30/04/2017 23:18

what are your thoughts on using sweeteners instead of sugar?

BigGrannyPants · 01/05/2017 10:15

My 6 year old went from being really adventurous with food to being really difficult. There's really only a hand full of things he will eat now. How do i get him to widen his palette again?

olivia280177 · 01/05/2017 17:08

For a quick tea on a Friday, the kids often have Birds Eye chicken dippers with potato waffles, peas and a bit of salad. Is this ok or is the salt content too high? My little ones are 6 and 7, my littlest is very slim but eats a lot.

Nottheshrinkingcapgrandpa · 01/05/2017 20:44

My oldest has turned really fussy- should I be giving them a multivitamin daily just in case?

AWafferthinmint · 01/05/2017 21:52

We struggle getting our 4 year old to eat enough protein. He will eat plenty of fruit and vegetables but not meat or eggs. How much of a problem could this be and do you have any ideas how to increase his protein uptake?

What simple easy meals, would be good for teenagers during the revisions/exam season. Especially to help them concentrate and maximise the success.

sjonlegs · 02/05/2017 15:55

My 8 year old daughter is a fussy thing and has a sweet tooth - but her current sweet treats are raisins, or an apple sliced with a spoonful of honey - not ideal - but the best I can manage. Any suggestions for things that might entice her please.

My 11 year old is sports mad and it's not easy to fill him up. Again any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. He's taken to drinking sports drinks too - albeit the sugarfree ones - should I be worried about this??

My son is 3 years old and loves milk to drink, particularly when he wakes & before bed. How much milk should he be drinking per day? And should it be full fat or semi skinned?

Thank you 😊
