With the internet and TV playing host to such a broad range of voices and opinions, there’s no limit to the amount of information you can find about children’s nutrition at the touch of a button. But with so much information out there, it can be difficult to know who to trust. So, Birds Eye have asked children’s nutrition expert, Lauren Woodley, to answer some of your questions and hopefully help to make tea time slightly less stressful.

Here’s what they have to say: ‘Tea time can be the most stressful part of the day when you have a family to feed and coming up with nutritious and tasty meals that your DCs will enjoy is not easy. That’s why Birds Eye frozen chicken is always made with 100% chicken breast, barn-reared chickens and no artificial colours, flavours and preservatives. We’ve enlisted the help of nutritionist Lauren Woodley to answer some of your questions, and hopefully make tea time that bit easier!’

Post any questions you have about the nutritional value of the foods you give your children on the thread below and we’ll choose 20 for Lauren to answer. Everyone who posts their questions will be entered into a prize draw for a £150 of their choice (from a list).

Here’s some information about Lauren Woodley:

‘Lauren Woodley is a registered nutritionist working for Birds Eye. She holds an accredited Nutrition BSc, and has had a career as an industry nutritionist for the past five years. Lauren is especially passionate about nutrition education, demystifying nutrition science and translating it into simple, consumer-friendly messages.’

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw,

Trying to find a definitive answer, but frankly who do I believe...?
Which is the lesser of the 2 evils, sugar-laden drinks or those with artificial sweeteners?

If children have a varied and balanced diet, do they need any vitamin supplements or omega supplements? It's so hard to know if they are getting all they need from food or whether supplements would help.

Trying to limit sugar is a hot topic but can be difficult. I look at fresh fruit juice and it seems to have more sugar than a can of pop. People say 'it's ok, those are natural sugars' but i don't really understand what that means - surely sugar is sugar?

Is there a difference?

SmileyShazza · 24/04/2017 12:03

Our 3 year old daughter is addicted to eating fruit. Should I be worried about the natural sugars in fruit and if so should I be placing limits on how much fruit she eats? Are some fruits better than others?

How much veg vs fruit should children eat for their 5 a day

Nicola27 · 24/04/2017 14:12

My son is 12 years old and eats a varied and well balanced diet. He has his five a day and two portions of fish a week. But even with a good diet he lacks energy and very often has dark circles around his eyes. Should I give him vitamin supplements or is there anything I could add to his diet to improve his well being. PS his iron levels have been checked and are normal. Many thanks.

My younger children love fruit but how much is too much? they would eat the whole fruit bowl if I let them.

crimsonwitch · 24/04/2017 15:39

I understand that overindulgence in anything is not ideal. However, I often hear conflicting advice regarding which "bad" food is the worst.
So my question is, which is worse, too much fat or too much sugar?
Thank you in advance.

My Niece has gained "puppy fat" should she still eat as normal or should we start being stricter with her diet?

Is too much fruit a bad thing? I worry about the amount of fruit sugars they eat.

jrobbs · 24/04/2017 20:14

Do you think it's OK to let children 'graze' on healthy foods or should I be enforcing a strict 3 meals a day policy ? I keep reading conflicting advice and a more now confused.

Carriecakes80 · 24/04/2017 22:48

Hi! I have four children, and while my eldest three eat ok, my youngest is 4 and basically living off of chocolate spread sandwiches, or peanut butter on toast and milk. She also loves her water. She is very skinny, not underweight, has bags of energy, but seems a little pale....what would you suggest in ways of adding extra vitamins and nutrients until her eating habits perk up??

My almost 4 yo DS is very slim. We don't snack in our house. Should I continue this policy, or try and get extra calories in via snacks but risk his reasonable quantity intake at mealtimes?

clarabella12 · 24/04/2017 23:57

does frozen food really provide the same nutrients as fresh?

peanutmum111 · 25/04/2017 00:05

My boys enjoy vegetables, the youngest will even beg for a plate full of broccoli !!!!
However, I have problems with fruit ........... they don't seem to like the texture, how 'tangy' they are,
We go strawberry and other fruit picking but even that does not inspire them.
Any help please.
