With the internet and TV playing host to such a broad range of voices and opinions, there’s no limit to the amount of information you can find about children’s nutrition at the touch of a button. But with so much information out there, it can be difficult to know who to trust. So, Birds Eye have asked children’s nutrition expert, Lauren Woodley, to answer some of your questions and hopefully help to make tea time slightly less stressful.

Here’s what they have to say: ‘Tea time can be the most stressful part of the day when you have a family to feed and coming up with nutritious and tasty meals that your DCs will enjoy is not easy. That’s why Birds Eye frozen chicken is always made with 100% chicken breast, barn-reared chickens and no artificial colours, flavours and preservatives. We’ve enlisted the help of nutritionist Lauren Woodley to answer some of your questions, and hopefully make tea time that bit easier!’

Post any questions you have about the nutritional value of the foods you give your children on the thread below and we’ll choose 20 for Lauren to answer. Everyone who posts their questions will be entered into a prize draw for a £150 of their choice (from a list).

Here’s some information about Lauren Woodley:

‘Lauren Woodley is a registered nutritionist working for Birds Eye. She holds an accredited Nutrition BSc, and has had a career as an industry nutritionist for the past five years. Lauren is especially passionate about nutrition education, demystifying nutrition science and translating it into simple, consumer-friendly messages.’

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw,

When a product states 100% chicken, beef etc as it's ingredient can this also include mechanically reclaimed meat?

beckyinman · 19/04/2017 23:10

Are there any healthier pudding ideas other than fruit? She has a really sweet tooth - would a sugar free jelly be OK?

voyager50 · 19/04/2017 23:56

So many children seem to eat tomato ketchup with their food and I have seen some of my friends' kids only eat vegetables if they are covered in it.

Does all the artificial colouring, sugar etc in the sauce cancel out the nutritional benefits of the veggies or is it better for them to eat them with it than not at all?

My son only want to eat takeaways what can i do to encourage him to eat some home cooked meal

Can frozen food be as healthy as the fresh version? Frozen products are so convenient and it reduces waste but I worry that they're not as healthy and have less nutrients.

AlexanderHamilton · 20/04/2017 00:56

Have you recently changed the recipie to crispy chicken as autistic ds says it tastes different & now wont eat it?

cwalliss82 · 20/04/2017 05:22

My DCs have always eaten home cooked food at home but now they are at school/nursery, they are exposed to cheap/convenience foods and are now wanting to eat them instead and have become fussy at mealtimes. How can I make home cooking more appealing to them or find better options for convenience foods?

mo3733 · 20/04/2017 07:30

is it true that excessive fruit is actually bad for you especially to their teeth ?

mollymoo818 · 20/04/2017 07:39

My children just completely refuse to eat vegetables though I try everything. Should I be giving them a multi vitamin to compensate or is there another way to get veggies into them?

Polyanthus · 20/04/2017 08:16

Any suggestions for calcium rich foods for my ds who doesn't like dairy ?

He's okay with butter and ice cream but really doesn't like milk, cheese or yogurt.

Thank you!

My great niece is going through a phase where she won't eat anything except baby plum tomatoes & bananas. Is she getting enough nutrients with her diet still?

moosexxx · 20/04/2017 09:28

We struggle to get our youngest to eat vegetables. We have tried to blend them up very small and mixing them in with a bolognese (or similar), but he always spots them.
Any tips on how we can get him to eat more vegetables (or fruit)?

jacqui5366 · 20/04/2017 09:31

I love your frozen products, they make mealtimes varied, and easy to cook. How do I check where the chicken came from, how do I find out how high is the quality of the meat. I want to feed my children healthy food and if you did an organic range I would swap to this. Thank you

emmav6 · 20/04/2017 09:41

my children wont eat fish or seeds, is there another way i can get them to have more omega in their diet?

ThemisA · 20/04/2017 10:13

Two questions if I may?
I have known mums feed their under fives on low fat and high fibre diets - I think a lot of us are confused about whether to use full-fat milk, cheese, yogurts etc or semi-skimmed/skimmed - what is the current thinking?

Many young people are becoming vegans and I worry about babies in utero if their mum is not getting Omega 3 for optimum brain development? Can you easily provide optimally when pregnant and is it safe to put children on vegan diets?

Hi, Garlic I use a lot, is it safe, its fresh

nettymay · 20/04/2017 10:48

Are there any fruits we should avoid having large quantities of?

finleypop · 20/04/2017 11:12

Should we be giving children a low fat diet? I read conflicting articles on this subject.

mamof3boys · 20/04/2017 11:17

My 11 year old son has chosen to become vegetarian. How do I make sure he gets enough protein in his diet?

Caillou · 20/04/2017 12:38

Which lunchbox food are guaranteed to be healthy?

Ikea1234 · 20/04/2017 12:42

The selling point for me with Birds Eye is that it is made from proper meat and fish. But what I wonder about is the coating and seasonings. Do they detract from the goodness of the original ingredient?

izbiz1988 · 20/04/2017 13:32

I'm aware that adults are supposed to limit their red meat intake - could you possibly tell me how much red meat children are recommended to eat a week? Thank you!

JoInScotland · 20/04/2017 14:14

How on earth can I get calcium into my child? He has never drank cow's milk (was breastfed until 2 years though!), hates cheese and ice cream and will only eat yogurt (which is often laced with sugar and stabilisers!) Help!

hiddenmichelle · 20/04/2017 14:15

My kids do not eat any fruit - they will eat vegetables - is this OK?

Calphurnia · 20/04/2017 16:08

My 3.11 DC will eat pretty much anything that childcare offer. At home it's a totally different story, even with the same foods.
What can we do to make mealtimes less of a battle?
