Over the next week, we're running a Q&A about fruit juice with Fiona Hunter, a qualified independent nutritionist and member of the British Dietetic Association. You may have read a number of stories in the papers about fruit juice and have some questions about its role in the diet for you and your family. For example, can 100% juice be one of your 5 a day, what goes into juice, when is it best to drink juice and how much to help ensure my children have a balanced diet?

Fiona has a BSc (Hons) Nutrition Degree and a postgraduate diploma in Dietetics from Kings College London. She worked as a Registered Dietitian in the NHS for seven years and for the last 15 years has worked as an independent nutrition consultant, writer and broadcaster.

Post your questions to Fiona before 9am on Friday 12th December and we'll send over a selection to which she will provide answers. There is a £150 Waitrose voucher up for grabs for one lucky Mumsnetter who posts a question. We will post Fiona's answers w/c 12 January.

This Q&A is sponsored by Tropicana.

Is it true you shouldn't have fruit juice or acidic drinks right before you brush your teeth? And if so how long should you leave it?

Juicing has become a very popular diet and indeed lifestyle for many. Is making your own juices as a replacement to meals really a good idea?

My family and I love grapefruit juice but I am concerned on the effect it might have on our teeth. Can you let me know whether it can damage teeth?

A bottle of sugar free orange juice for diluting - is it really sugar free?

funkyfish586 · 07/12/2014 17:51

I never give my children juice because of the sugar but i was wondering if there are any fruit juices that are low sugar & 'healthy'?

starlight36 · 07/12/2014 17:55

Is there any nutritional value in juice prepared from concentrate? DD prefers the taste of this over freshly squeezed juice which she says is too strong.

edoody · 07/12/2014 17:59

Not from concentrate versus concentrated? Is one really any better than the other?

dragon60 · 07/12/2014 18:04

Why is Tropicana fruit juice so much better tasting than other premium brands.

Sizzlesthedog · 07/12/2014 18:23

Another one, not really a question, but, why can't you get fresh juice in small lunchbox packs with straws. Why is it always the long life stuff?

lizd31 · 07/12/2014 18:28

I don't like fruit but love freshly squeezed orange juice. Is it just as good for us as eating the fruit as long as it's not made from concentrate & is it bad for the teeth?

I've read advice that tropical fruits and juices should be avoided but would like to understand what it is about them that is harmful. Can you please explain ?

Melawen · 07/12/2014 18:44

Sometimes I give my DD diluted fruit juice - at what point does the dilution mean that it no longer counts as 1 of the 5 a day?

Liquorice13 · 07/12/2014 18:44

Is pure orange juice ok for a 6 year old, or is diluted best, I also have concerns about the damage the sugar will do to her teeth, yet we are told it is part of the 5 a day? Good or bad?
