We have been asked by the team at Royal Caribbean to find 20 MNers to join them onboard their ship – Oasis of the Seas - in dock in Southampton on Wednesday 15th October. Goody bag to be had!

Royal Caribbean say: "We are delighted to welcome one of the world's biggest and most innovative ships to Southampton in October for a one off event. We know there are lots preconceived ideas about cruise holidays and we would like to show you what a holiday with Royal Caribbean is really like by inviting 20 Mumsnetters who have never been on a cruise before to come onboard to see for themselves and discover the seven incredible neighbourhoods, each home to countless unique activities and experiences. From this we ask you to capture and share your experiences and feedback to us at the end of the day."

This is a day for adults only, with regret no children are allowed on this occasion. We are looking for folks who have thought about but never been on a cruise before. Maybe there's something small stopping you from booking a cruise for you and your family or maybe you have a perception of what a cruise would be like?

If selected you will...

~ Join the ship in Southampton dock at 11am (along with some MN bloggers)
~ Receive vouchers to cover all food and beverage
~ Have the opportunity to experience various activities on board including child and adult focused activities, vitality and dining.
~ You will be asked to review the whole ship and part of the day will be organised - part of it will be free time for you to explore - with another MNer or in small groups.
~ You'll need to join a round-table discussion at the end of the day with the Royal Caribbean team to share your experiences and thoughts.
~ At the end of the day there will be dinner and drinks for all.
~ You will depart the ship at around 8.30pm and as an extra special treat for those who need/ want it you can have a night in a hotel in Southampton to sober up in order to be refreshed and ready to face the next day!
~ Receive a goody bag (contents to be confirmed) to say thanks from Royal Caribbean

Note: with regret, Royal Caribbean are unable to pay travel costs to get to and from Southampton. However, there is free parking available (with short coach transfer to the ship) and as a token of thanks and in lieu of travel costs every MNer who attends will be sent a £50 Amazon voucher once they have added feedback as required.

In return we need all attending MNers to:

~ Make a video diary of the day on your own smartphone and email the footage back to MN after the event - these videos will be edited and used on MN and by Royal Caribbean. It will be hosted on YouTube and used on social media, MN and possibly elsewhere. Please only sign up if you're willing to do video on board.

~ Attend the end of day debrief with Royal Caribbean.

~ Add feedback (with photos you've taken on the day) to a thread on MN.

Please note quotes from the thread as well as from the day, along with your photos and video may be used by Royal Caribbean on their website, on their blog, on social media and possibly elsewhere: please only apply if you're happy with this.

If you'd like to apply to attend and can make that date (Wednesday 15 Oct) and stay for the required time (11am – 8.30pm) please add your details on this form and we will be in touch with selected MNers asap. We will also run a reserve list.

Thanks and bon voyage Smile

I'm staying over too. Definitely NOT volunteering for the zip wire Shock

Still in a dilemma over outfit and foot wear........

whoops · 13/10/2014 09:18

Has anyone who isn't staying emailed about the car park? I did but not heard anything back to confirm

NecesitoDormir · 13/10/2014 18:49

I am staying over. No zip wire for me. I am really looking forward to this. :)

Eastpoint · 13/10/2014 18:52

I'm staying over & said yes to the zip wire. If the weather is still wet I dont want to do it.

ArriettyC · 13/10/2014 19:13

Hello all
Frantically trying to arrange childcare for Wednesday - cannot WAIT for the day! I think I may wear jeans and a jacket - is that smart/casual?! Just reread that we are supposed to be making video diaries - I'd forgotten that part! Looking forward to meeting some other mumsnetters in real life!

Eastpoint · 13/10/2014 19:48

I've just realised that this will be the first time I've gone away on my own since December 1998.

CecyHall · 13/10/2014 19:58

I don't think I've ever stayed in a hotel by myself!

Twitterqueen · 13/10/2014 21:00

Cecy You will kind of be by yourself and kind of not. How many of us are staying? Do you know if we get breakfast included? The very best part of staying in a hotel is the breakfast. I sound like a glutton and I probably am. But for me, it is the height of luxury to have someone serve me eggs benedict or full English or ham and cheese or...

But even better than the breakfast will be talking to other MN'ers! Can't wait to meet you lot.

I was hoping to squeeze in time for a swim and a spa before breakfast, before making the journey back home to west berks, but I have since looked at my diary and discovered that I have my half-yearly career development review at 10.30am... Bugger.

kissmyheathenass · 13/10/2014 21:30

Yes to hotel breakfasts, they are the best. And a whole huge bed to myself - bliss!!

I'm so looking forward to this and to meeting you all.

Eve · 14/10/2014 12:54

Has anyone checked where the ship if off to after Southampton.. Florida and the Caribbean for 17 days.

It takes 5000 passengers, they wouldn't notice one more would they? Grin

Neena28 · 14/10/2014 13:12

Eve I'm right with you stowing away!!

I'm honestly slightly concerned I may have keeled over from excitement before I even get there!!

CecyHall · 14/10/2014 13:14

Lol I had the same thought!! Sounds bliss!

I've got such butterflies in my tummy!

CecyHall · 14/10/2014 13:15

Sorry- too many ! in that post

whoops · 14/10/2014 13:24

I've been considering stowing away too!!

Can't wait for tomorrow looking forward to meeting you! Although I think I've met Eve?

Eve · 14/10/2014 14:47

I don't meeting yo whoops...

Hiding in the life rafts then... do you think we will look suspicious bringing suitcase's for a day on board?

whoops · 14/10/2014 15:06

Sorry Eve must be getting confused with someone who had a similar name as you Blush

Wonder what will be involved in the science class?!maybe how to make ourselves invisible?!

booface · 14/10/2014 16:04

I'm really looking forward to the mini massages, just what I need! Look forward to meeting you all tomorrow.

peaz · 14/10/2014 17:16

Has there been another email out? Massage? Science class? I've missed something!

peaz · 14/10/2014 17:36

Nope, nothing. The last email I got was last week, with our joining instructions. Has anything changed that I need to know? Don't want to miss the boat...literally!

whoops · 14/10/2014 17:47

Yes had another email this afternoon with updated itinerary and tips for the video diary

Twitterqueen · 14/10/2014 18:27

I too am intrigued by the 'science' class.....
Can't wait
I'm off to pack my bag and charge the video & phone!

NB: Do we call each other by our real names tomorrow, or our MN names?!
And do we swear secrecy for afterwards....

Sushiqueen · 14/10/2014 19:18

I haven't had another email. Is there any change to the times we are meeting?

whoops · 14/10/2014 20:21

Don't know if you have had warning but there are going to be 4 cruise ships in Southampton docks in the morning plus there is a road closure near the hotel so allow plenty of time to get there!

booface · 14/10/2014 20:40

Suishiqueen. There wasn't a change in time of meeting. Don't worry. Just a few more details about what we will be doing, including this mysterious science class! See you tomorrow :)

ChippyMinton · 14/10/2014 20:45

Thanks for the heads up, whoops. I'll set off a bit earlier then planned, and can always have a coffee at the hotel.

Real names is the usual form, I think - then some confusing matching up with MN names when we meet again on the thread Confused

Outfit planned, I think - skinny dark jeans, zipwire-appropriate footwear and a jacket.

See you all in the morning Smile
