What's your secret weapon for surviving sick days with little ones?

It's never ideal when cold and flu season hits your house, but having some tricks up your sleeve can help. We'd love to know how you handle it when everyone's under the weather.

Is there a particular meal that always comforts poorly DC? Perhaps grabbing the duvets and settling in for a TV marathon does the trick, or maybe you tackle the germs head-on with plenty of anti-bac and fresh laundry.

Share your go-to sick day tips and remedies below! Everyone who posts by 25 November will be entered into a prize draw to win a £200 Amazon voucher (T&Cs)

Here's what Broncho Junior has to say
'Broncho Junior is chosen by mums who plan ahead. One cupboard staple, many cough types. Broncho Junior helps calm dry or chesty coughs day or night'

In addition to the usual calpol, I was never ever without ice lollies in the freezer. Feels like a treat but a really marvellous way to hydrate anyone in addition to cooling and soothing. Something I often also used as a nurse

We keep the lights low, open a window slightly for fresh air, and make mango ice lollies

Their pillow which they have on their bed, which doubles up as a blanket which unwraps - I know it comforts them when they are feeling hot and restless.

Simple meals, blankets, family films, keep on top of washing, plan days out when better.

Beabeautiful · 19/11/2025 16:29

The TV on and just staying with them - keeping them hydrated and calm. Keeping temperatures down with some fresh air from windows, and calpol as a must every 4 hours.

Are you a nurse by any chance?

No, just a mum that's had to deal with a lot of health issues with the kids.

Montydoo · 20/11/2025 08:31

My mum always swore my fresh air when they have a sickness bug, I really agree with this - so that's my secret weapon - allowing any viruses out, clear the air - and they do get a 'sickly smell' which also evaporates through a slightly open window.

Britanniaa · 20/11/2025 13:42

My secret weapon is grandma - I cannot always take the day off work at such short notice to look after them - I trust her instincts explicitly when it comes to her doing the best for them and spoiling them with love and cuddles.

Looking through holiday photos, in the albums, or on my phone, casting to the TV to take their mind of feeling unwell, and thinking of happier times.

Another one for tomato soup on the sofa with a duvet, tv and plenty of hugs.

Boiled egg mashed up in a cup, works wonders.

Aww I’d forgotten DM would do that for me when I was little. Not necessarily when I was ill though.

Make ice pops for when they have a sore throat and don't want a drink - and vicks vapour rub on their chest under a vest so that the body heat delicately makes the vapour help with decongesting
