We all know how special it is to spend quality time as a family, and gaming can be a brilliant way to bond, encourage problem-solving and teamwork. From navigating different worlds to friendly competitions, playing together can create memories that last a lifetime.

Nintendo games are great for this, offering something for everyone—from little ones just starting out to parents (and grandparents!) reliving their own childhood gaming days. Whether it’s a quick race, solving puzzles, or teaming up for a big adventure, there’s plenty of fun to be had.

We’d love to hear from you: What are your favorite family gaming moments? How do you use gaming to bring everyone together?

  • Post your stories in the thread below to be entered into a prize draw
  • One lucky MNer will win a £200 VEX voucher for a store of their choice.

About Nintendo:
“At Nintendo, the mission is to bring a smile to everyone’s face by creating new surprises that can help connect people from around the world. The company first started in Kyoto, Japan back in 1889 with hanafuda playing cards and now shares their exciting visions through the world of entertainment and video games.”

For us it was Christmas 2022. We got the kids their first console and they were playing human fall flat, it was hilarious! Never seen anything like it. We joined them and so did my mum and seeing her try to play had us all in fits of laughter. Since then, as they’ve gotten older, we love to play loads of online games started off with among us and then hide online and now we play a lot of Roblox games like DTI and Blair. Our current favourite board games are labyrinth and outsmarted. I’ve also just introduced my youngest boy, who is 8, to old school Pokémon! We are watching the series I used to watch as a kid and I’m planning on getting him a switch so he can play a Pokémon game (and I can play it too 😂)

Favourite gaming memory is when my two brothers and I used to play Mario Party on the Game Cube when we came home from uni at Christmas. Our parents used to join in and even though there were 5 of us, we used to team up and compete with each other. The game was brilliant as not only did you play the boardgame, but you had mini challenges too. The games were really fun to play and all of us found them fun.
Lots of laughs, great times, great memories.

Just Dance on the Wii! We started with the ones suitable for young children, with songs like "I am a gummy bear" and then as they got older to the standard ones!
Very competitive and great fun but it seemed that a lot of movement and random arm waving equalled points! So DC always won!

I love playing games, I remember having our first Nintendo console and playing Mario Bros with my dad and my brother when I was 5 years old, it was 1986. We don't have wireless controller at that time and my dad always yanked the controller so high so Mario could reach the Flag at the top of the pole but it also sent the console flying. We laughed so hard and had a great time playing together. My sons inherited my love of video games, so all of us are playing together now. We always spend our weekend playing together. We started with Nintendo Wii which has now been replaced with Nintendo switch. Our favourite game is Super Mario Party, Mario Kart, Just Dance, Bomberman, Moving Out, Overcooked, Urban City. We also sat down and played all the story games together, like Super Mario 3D World, Paper Mario, Yoshi's Crafted World, and what we think is the best is Super Mario Odyssey, it is just B-E-A-U-tiful, feast for the eyes! It is such a great bonding time for us, lots of laughter, lot of shouting too but most important is that we are having fun together.

Mario kart with my son. I'm pretty rubbish but he's taught me some moves and strategies! I like games where you can play cooperative multiplayer, be on the same team. It's much more pleasant when the children are working together.

We all seem to bond over my inability to coordinate the controls on modern games consoles - which my children find highly amusing. It's lovely to hear them all laughing and getting along rather than bickering.

We all love sequence, it’s been great on some many occasions and great to play in terms of ages and it’s great for a bit of fun rivalry with rounds that aren’t too long.

The in laws love arguing about politics and this game enables us to sit around a table laughing.

my dad and I have a secret love of playing games together while my mum chuckles at us. It’s nice to see him now introducing my 5 year old to games and reliving those moments
