We really enjoyed The Play That Goes Wrong.

I like the Postal Museum and London Transport Museum. I find the logistics of a big city fascinating.

My 12yo really likes Seven Dials Market - a food court near Covent Garden.

Watching fountains in Granary Square

Trafalgar Square - National Portrait Gallery (recently reopened) - China Town for lunch or dinner afterwards.

Geographically very close and something for everyone!

A few that haven’t been mentioned yet -

Gilbert and George just off Brick Lane (weekends and Fridays I think) is free and really good (nb includes swearing)

Forget the expensive bus tours and get the number 11, it goes to all the interesting places and loads cheaper.

Daunts bookstore in Marylebone. The worlds most picturesque bookshop.

Postman’s Park is worth a diversion if you’re anywhere near St Paul’s.

I love discovery new things whenever we go to London, last time we stumbled across the mithraeum and it was fascinating. There is so much history and so many new vibrant things to do or find in London that it would be hard to pick just one. From museums to markets we always find something to do.

BabyStopCryin · 22/08/2023 07:43

London transport museum - lots of vehicles to climb on, educational area, nice space for packed lunches/cafe, ticket is for a year (?) so you can return… hours of fun for little ones (and bigger ones).

LittleDeeAndME · 23/08/2023 11:08

A day on the South Bank - London Eye - a thames Cruise from there - Shreks adventure - and all of the street entertainers - just the most vibrant place to be - do as much or as little as you want there - You can even visit the Houses Of Parliament - but only certain days of course - my OH did the tour last time we went - a real eye opener.

tillymint21 · 23/08/2023 12:44

Our favourites are: a walk along the South Bank, Harrod’s Food Hall, Covent Garden, Natural History Museum, the V&A. Oh, and a musical or a show in the evening!

Montydoo · 23/08/2023 13:14

Another vote for the South Bank here - get a ticket for multiple attractions
also the Westminster to Greenwich Thames cruise - it's a great way to see London - not expensive either

Beabeautiful · 24/08/2023 07:41

Depends on your budget, there are lots of free places, Museums, green parks, and watching the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace - all great for children to watch and be - and if you have the budget, a ticket for the London Eye - it's once in a lifetime event - a must ! then a trip down the Thames - once you have disembarked from this - go to Shreks adventure - both are wonderful

Smiley444 · 24/08/2023 07:49

Our favourite things to do are watching shows in the West End, then going to the Hard Rock Cafe for dinner. London's Sky Garden is great for an affordable way to see the skyline. And the river cruises on the Thames are usually great too - a good way to sightsee. The Monopoly definitely sounds worth a visit!

purplepandas · 24/08/2023 07:53

V and A, Sky Garden

TerrorOwls · 24/08/2023 08:02

Natural history museum was a favourite for years.

Covent Garden for food and market

Trafalgar Square for a visit to the national gallery then watching street performers

Kensington garden is our favourite London park.

Regent's Park outdoor theatre

Going on London ghost walks around Halloween has been fun.

Greenwich for the museum, a walk up the hill and the market. Picking up second hand books and spending time in the park with them.

DinkyDaffodil · 24/08/2023 10:59

Afternoon tea up the Shard - book in advance with a voucher - always good value - it's an experience of a lifetime - mine still talk about it

chickenpotnoodle · 26/08/2023 09:12

Go to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - the theatre itself is such a special - they go to Covent Garden and take in the atmosphere and street artists

lillypopdaisyduke · 27/08/2023 08:57

Book a tour bus - at get off at all of the attractions - if you get on one at the earliest run you will have the best day ! The atmosphere and seeing all of the iconic buildings you see on the TV for the first time is just the best - My two were amazed seeing the BBC building - It's looks sooo different in real life

Montydoo · 27/08/2023 17:51

ANY of the museums - they are all so full of interesting artifacts - sit by Nelsons Column and watch the world go by - Covent Garden is a vibrant place

Asuwere · 28/08/2023 16:34

The natural history museum is a good day out.
The sky garden is cool for something free.

JacCharlton · 29/08/2023 10:44

A day on the South Bank - on a sunny day - or a day going round the museums if it's not.

DanBenandBud · 30/08/2023 13:20

River Thames Hop On Hop Off Sightseeing Cruise - use a website to buy discounted tickets ! It's a great day out and you avoid getting stuck in traffic

ohdannyboy · 31/08/2023 13:06

Go to Greenwich - it's an amazing place and not too 'touristy' and if you are a lover of oriental food go to chinatown for a visual and culinary treat

DinkyDaffodil · 01/09/2023 06:51

We love the open top tour busses, the London Eye than a walk along the South Bank - with lunch - pre bought or any of the foot outlets - all good ! then check this website https://officiallondontheatre.com/tkts/ for cheap tickets to a show.

Take a trip aroung the houses of parliament - when the house is not sitting for your older DC's a great way to see how this country is governed - such a spectacular building
