We have never taken our daughter to London . It’s on our to do list.

The science museum is a great day to spend with the kids, the London dungeons, Green park, a walk up the Mall to see the changing of the guards, and a hop on hop off bus.

Out of the museums, our most favourite is Museum of London Docklands. It's not as busy as Natural History or Science Museum but it's beautifully designed, interactive and had some regular educational activities (free, but we had to pre-book). Nice dining options around as well.
Also Battersea Park really good, kept the kids entertained (go-ape needs to be prec-booked though)
London Dungeons
Harrods (toy department)
Kidzania

Natural History Museum is a must as it's free (although donations welcome) - so accessible to everyone! Always something new & that you haven't seen on a previous visit!
Also love a trip to Harrods - so much fun imagining what we would buy if we were rich, & even more so at Christmas - magical!
If feeling extravagant/special occasion - the London Eye is a real treat!

A walk along the South Bank, a boat trip down the Thames to the Tower of London, ANY of the parks - all are beautifully kept and relaxing and the kids are able to run around. A open top tour bus

JacCharlton · 07/08/2023 10:37

A trip to Greenwich, the and a must is Harry Potter Studio tour - just magical - any of the museums or the London parks - all have green spaces, a cafe and peace from the hussle and bussle

Absolutely love going to the ticket booth in Leicester Square and picking something to see from the list. I used to do it with my mum as a teen, and now love doing it with my own teens. Booking online wouldn’t have the same thrill; the jeopardy of standing in line and waiting to see which seats are available is part of the experience.

Greenwich certainly has the wow factor - as soon as you step out from the Thames foot tunnel (my kid loved this in itself!) you see the Cutty Sark. When we went aboard there were sea shanties and a character presentation - fab and interactive. The market is great for food, the park is great to explore, and the Maritime Museum has a fab (bookable) children's gallery called AHOY!

lillypopdaisyduke · 07/08/2023 19:34

Seeing all the landmarks you see on the telly ! Nelsons Column, Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament - it's a must.

sharond101 · 07/08/2023 20:16

We love people watching in Covent Garden and the science museum

VisitationRights · 07/08/2023 21:24

When in London we like to visit the Diana Memorial Fountain in Hyde Park, the whole park is great to visit with children

Fiddlesticks24 · 07/08/2023 21:35

Two that I haven't seen mentioned:

Ahoy children's gallery at Greenwich - a play area within the main museum with lots of role play equipment, good for 2-6 year olds ish. You have to book but it's pretty cheap. Then you can go and run around in Greenwich park afterwards, or go on the carousel by the river.

Discover children's story centre in Stratford. It's worth booking the events in the basement as well as the main session. The garden is nice too. Cafe is rubbish though so bring a packed lunch.

I have teenagers and amongst the things we love to do:

  • Hampstead Ponds for an outdoor swim followed by coffee and cake on South End Road
  • Walk along the south bank, trip to Tate Modern followed by food (food features a lot)
  • a Treasure Trail route around a part of London we don’t know that well (we did a great one around Columbia Road)
  • Brick Lane on a Sunday for the vintage clothes (and food)
  • Granary Square at King’s Cross for the outdoor cinema screen (and food, ideally at Dishoom or Roti King)
