Science museum for the children & Kew gardens for the adults

I would recommend the Tower of London for a visit - so much to see, the history is incredible - you can start this day off with a trip down the Thames which drops you off there. The staff there are the friendliest - everyone should visit this historic place once in their lifetime - we went last year and our DC's STILL talk about it .

A ride on the Open top buses means we can get off at any major site... and play Monopoly street spotting as we go !

We love to do the walk along the Southbank, from Tower Bridge to the London Eye.

LoserWinner · 11/08/2023 20:43

For children over 14, the Old Bailey - you can watch a trial from the public gallery for free.

Philandbill · 12/08/2023 18:19

A trip from Greenwich up the river to the Houses of Parliament or beyond on a TfL clipper boat. Far cheaper than a tourist boat and you see exactly the same things. Café on board so you can add have a coffee as you go.

Museum of the London Docklands (whilst the London Museum is closed) and Canary Wharf, river boat to Westminster/ Embankment then we’ll go to the Law courts (Old Bailey or RCJ) with my over 14s, then potter round Covent Garden/ Soho before the train home.

The museums are great and very busy in the holidays.

The London Eye - book fast track (tip) then the afternoon on the South Bank, lots to see and do - and great street food, and green spaces to safely run around

My baby is only one but a few places we like to go:
Alexandra palace boating lake
Snug cafe on green lanes which has a play area and great food
Hamleys
Paradise wildlife park
Birch Community Hotel

Paradise wildlife park is nowhere near London. Hertfordshire?

I’ve booked the Tower of London for Friday. I’m so glad to have read this comment. My children are quite young but I think my 4 year old will enjoy it. I was worried about whether it was worth a visit.

DanBenandBud · 14/08/2023 15:19

We love the South Bank - it's not crammed with tourists, it's busy but not overly so - there are so many street entertainers, jugglers, singers, and bands - we watched a young brass band there last time - it was so uplifting. There are great fast food outlets - all independent - and there is a great atmosphere - and there is a small beach by the river further down

littlecottonbud · 14/08/2023 15:53

Yes, we love the South Bank too - I recommend the London Eye (get the ticket with the Thames cruise, then finish with Shreks Adventure - Its a great place to be with kids - look out for the ticket deals too.

ButterOllocks · 15/08/2023 15:44

Get a roadside view of the changing of the guards the spend the rest of the day at St James Park - avoid the hussle and bussle - and it costs nowt (Yorkshire Lass)

We've only visited London as a family a few times. My children really enjoyed visiting the Natural History Museum, the theatres, Hamleys and the Diana Memorial Playground.

PashleyB · 16/08/2023 22:40

The morph trail has been fun. Battersea power station light festival when it is on in the winter. The sky garden in the walkie talkie.

Sorry to jump on your reply but I’m up this early because we’re heading to London now. Is there anything else you advise doing?
