Created for Culturelle

We know that our lifestyle and diet have an impact on our overall health and digestion, with energy levels, bloating and even skin irritation all connected to gut health. With this in mind we’d like to know what changes, big or small you’ve made to your overall health, to support your gut health?

  • Post your experiences in the thread below to be entered into a prize draw.
  • One lucky winner will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice.

Here’s what Culturelle has to say:
‘At Culturelle we believe that talking about the gut is still a stigmatized health issue around the world, and by opening up new conversations we can help people understand more about their bodies, the science and what we can all do to support the core of our health’

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Yoghurt for breakfast and avoid bread. Probably could be doing more.

I make my own yogurt and kefir and drink daily. I also buy raw milk direct from the farm which has a higher level of good bacteria. We always have sauerkraut in the house too. I used to take probiotics but the shop bought ones seem so inconsistent .

princesssugarless · 02/01/2023 10:32

Oo and sour dough bread - makes a huge difference to bloating from 'normal bread' for me l

lovemyflipflops · 02/01/2023 13:26

90% vegan, sourdough bread and a probiotic drink every morning.

Lots of great advice above - thank you Mumsnetters !

Ohthereyouarepeter · 02/01/2023 15:23

I added fermented foods to my diet like kefir, kimchi and kombucha. I tried to increase the diversity in plants I eat and I also started intermittent fasting in April which is beneficial for the gut microbes. I have noticed an improvement in my eczema, as well as losing some weight.

OwwwMuuuum · 02/01/2023 21:11

I eat natural yoghurt (I buy direct from the farm), raw honey and organic sauerkraut, not together obviously.

Montydoo · 03/01/2023 09:46

Probiotic yoghurts and no red meat, very little processed food, and a low salt diet - I try Dry and Veganuary, and try to incorporate this into my long term diet. Is there a cook book which focuses on gut health recipes and ideas - I'd like to try this ?

Acunningruse · 03/01/2023 09:54

I aim to eat 30g fibre a day- i don't always make it but I try. I find i have much less digestive issues after switching to almond and oat milk instead of dairy.

DinkyDaffodil · 03/01/2023 16:05

lentils, beans, whole grains, bananas, apples make up a large part of my diet, with yogurt, tried Kefir - just could not take to it.
A 'nearly' vegan diet.

LittleDeeAndME · 04/01/2023 16:30

I know I am relied on by so many people, and need to look after me - as well as I can in amongst the chaos of family life - I choose to eat minimal red meat, I eat live yoghurt, have swapped to sour dough bread - one of my NYR is to bake my own (in my Ninja), no alcohol, and 5 portions or more of fruit and veg, and pulses.

ohdannyboy · 10/01/2023 11:30

A probiotic drink a day - a good balanced diet, 5 glasses of water, no junk food

happyfishcoco · 11/01/2023 15:23

In my culture, there are a lot of sayings to keep our gut healthy.
We drink warm water instead of cold water or icy water.
We have meals on time and focus. no talking.

pushchairprincess · 12/01/2023 11:19

A try to maintain a high fibre diet, no alcohol, no red meat, oily fish once a week - I'd like to afford pro-biotics drinks - but I am on a very tight budget. I like to think I am doing the right things with a balanced diet.

UnicornsForLife · 15/01/2023 12:07

I take a multi vitamin with probiotics added.

buckley1983 · 16/01/2023 10:43

The best change I have made (but struggled to maintain!) is to cut out refined sugar - this improved not only my gut health, but also my skin, my energy levels, my sleep, etc. It's just so damn addictive though, it's an ongoing battle!!

I stopping drinking alcohol about 12 years ago, which really helped my IBS. I now take a probiotic daily, drink plenty of water & try to cook from scratch as often as I can.

I've started to use milk alternatives...particularly loving almond milk

hannahbjm · 24/01/2023 12:19

I am trying to increase fibre and eat 7 different fruit and veg I do. I try to do one from each rainbow colour

Chubbybeanz · 01/02/2023 12:48

Cutting out dairy and reducing refined carbs really made a big difference. I also take Good gut tablets from boots

DinosApple · 16/02/2023 10:18

I have those probiotic yoghurt drinks and kefir. Also a good multivitamin and aim for a balanced diet.

problembottom · 17/02/2023 20:10

My most positive change has been switching to wholegrain everything. Everything from pasta to bread to crackers. It’s worked wonders for digestion.
I also look into the quality of the food I eat and take care when I shop. Junk food, anything too processed, gives me a terrible gut the next day. I don’t avoid anything - I’ll go out for a lovely three course meal - but I make sure I maintain the right balance when it comes to food groups.

Hence, try to save as much of the available resources as you can. When you have completed the character improvement, Retro Bowl

foxessocks · 25/04/2023 20:12

Probiotic yogurts

gingercat02 · 25/04/2023 20:33

More seeds, nuts, live yogurt and wholegrain carbs. Lots of water.
