Teething can be a really stressful process for both baby and parent. Whether this is your first child and the upset that teething has caused your baby has come as a shock, or maybe you’ve helped several children through the journey and you know the best way to soothe their pain, Nurofen would like to hear your top tips for helping a teething baby through the process.

Here’s what Nurofen has to say: “Healthy kids are playful kids, but sometimes pain and illness can get in the way. Every child’s teething journey is different, and it can be hard to spot the signs and decide the right course of action to help your little one feel better. With this in mind, we’d like to learn more about the tips and tricks you use to help your child through teething pain and get back to feeling themselves.” *

Is your go-to for soothing your baby a special teething toy? Have your friends or family recommended a particular medication? Maybe your baby’s first few teeth came through with no discomfort or pain or perhaps it took a really long time for any teeth to appear at all? Did you find the perfect soother after reading advice on the internet? Or did you find that some extra cuddles got you and your baby through?

Share your teething journey on this thread and you will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).**

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Teething gel, matchstick monkey and lots of distraction as well as going out all helped a lot. Also, breastfeeding on demand including at night (we're bedsharing)

EvilHerbivore · 28/04/2021 09:30

Frozen fruit/veg and cuddles

EsmeeMerlin · 28/04/2021 11:41

Make use of medication. My sons both used to respond well with the teething powders and used to like chewing on the plastic weening spoons after when they were teething. Also taking care of yourself, teething can have an impact on your sleep and stress levels.

We used matchstick monkey and Sophie the giraffe toys which helped, along with calpol in the day. Ive always found nurofen was better at night for him when teething, especially when he had more than one coming through.

frozen mashed bananas is just like soothing ice cream.

DD's teething is helped by frozen fruit and teething toys stored in the fridge. Lots of cuddles are also essential!

problembottom · 28/04/2021 21:09

My advice would be to trust that you know your child best. Nurofen (has to be orange flavour!), old fashioned camomile teething powder and letting my daughter sleep in bed with me for a night or two are the only things that get us through teething times.

atracurious · 29/04/2021 12:14

Really recommend anbesol and frozen teething rings!

Montydoo · 29/04/2021 12:36

Calpol, a walk in the pram to take their minds off it and a ice pop.

1990shopefulftm · 29/04/2021 15:14

Anbesol, nurofen or calpol, he won't touch most teething toys apart from the nuby keys.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 29/04/2021 17:08

Freezing carrot sticks for them to gum on

Making ice lollies from their milk

stressbandit · 29/04/2021 17:43

Frozen fruit in a mesh dummy!

flowersfromheaven · 29/04/2021 23:17

I put the teething toys in the fridge the cold seems to help soothe the gums.

ZoeMaye · 30/04/2021 10:17

Cucumber wedges, nice and cold.
Wet flannel or Muslin square
Teething granules

meow1989 · 30/04/2021 12:22

Anbesol, frozen yoghurt lollies, things to chew (sophie the giraffe, cucumber with skin on, watermelon, my finger(!)) And if nothing else worked, baby paracetamol or ibuprofen.

DinkyDaffodil · 30/04/2021 15:41

I frozen fromage frais lolly, and some calpol.

jellybeanpopper · 30/04/2021 18:19

ButterflyOfFreedom · 30/04/2021 18:25

Definitely teething rings (water filled which have been in the freezer).
The Sophie the Giraffe toy was good to chew on too!
And Calpol always on hand if things for really tough.

From a FTM ... teething is one of the hardest stages we've been through! My little boy cut his first tooth 5 days ago so we are currently in the blissful stage however anxiously awaiting the next tooth to start kicking up a storm! The only thing that helped my boy was teething salts and nurofen to help soothe the pain! He had every type of teether possible but loved to chew his muslin cloths, it must have felt nice and soothing for him so we just let him have a good chew!

Sarah84848484 · 01/05/2021 00:06

Anbesol liquid... and lots of soft food!

Having had the trauma of 7/8/9/10? pregnancies (2 beautiful daughters) was the result, working in health with doctors scientists I had access to all major med research jnls and as a result of my trauma (still with me today). All the serious jnls came my way and they were heavily perused esp. Paediatric Jnls. One theme in Pediatric jnls were editorials complained that research on teething was very poor quality. But was so important because huge sums were spent by parents on concoctions etc without any serious evidence. subsequently I saw 2 solid research papers that put mums babies scientist dental spec etc together. The Jnls were high quality credible. The research findings did not match the descriptions mums gave when compared with the monitoring (electronic and examinations) Major findings were during teething monitors did not show increased waking during teething, babies did not run fevers, babies were not unsettled at a significantly increased rate during teething (Teething onset assessed in secret by dental spec., it appeared the dental spec who examined the babies did not find the onset of teething accurately matched the mothers claimed time of onset. In addition the monitoring when teething began did not show a measurable increase in crying or fussing. Important It was all blinded no one saw anyone else monitoring. Completely blinded meant no one involved influenced anyone else, adds real credibility to the findings. Important note: I am not trying to start a new version of the baby wars Regards to all. A dad who was so grateful for the incredible care we received that bought extraordinary joy to my life.

Fortunefavours1 · 01/05/2021 10:45

Frozen fruit also. And chilled teething rings.

BirdyBee · 01/05/2021 14:50

A damp muslin cloth in the freezer for 15 ish mins and ice pops, also a really good absorbant dribble bib!

murbblurb · 01/05/2021 18:40
