Teething can be a really stressful process for both baby and parent. Whether this is your first child and the upset that teething has caused your baby has come as a shock, or maybe you’ve helped several children through the journey and you know the best way to soothe their pain, Nurofen would like to hear your top tips for helping a teething baby through the process.

Here’s what Nurofen has to say: “Healthy kids are playful kids, but sometimes pain and illness can get in the way. Every child’s teething journey is different, and it can be hard to spot the signs and decide the right course of action to help your little one feel better. With this in mind, we’d like to learn more about the tips and tricks you use to help your child through teething pain and get back to feeling themselves.” *

Is your go-to for soothing your baby a special teething toy? Have your friends or family recommended a particular medication? Maybe your baby’s first few teeth came through with no discomfort or pain or perhaps it took a really long time for any teeth to appear at all? Did you find the perfect soother after reading advice on the internet? Or did you find that some extra cuddles got you and your baby through?

Share your teething journey on this thread and you will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).**

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

We froze breastmilk into popsicles and let our daughter use it as an ice pop. It was nice to know she was getting comfort & nutrition!

I found nurofen to be more effective than paracetamol based medicine so would give that to my twins. I also bought an amazing teething toy called a molar magician which has “legs” they can get right to the back of their gums. My twins are autistic and they are both intense chewers - there’s a brilliant chew toy called the chewubbles big strong tube. We’ve tried all chew toys but these are indestructible - perfect for toddlers with horrible molars coming through!

My son had eruption cysts on his gums. I took him to the dentist to double check. I let him breastfeed on demand and gave Calpol or Nurofen when needed.

Home made ice pops were a life saver here and with my second dc I was definitely freer with the pain killers- teething is horrible for them so it would be silly not to use ibuprofen or paracetamol if it helps them.

My DD slept on and off all day on her first Christmas Day. In the evening she smiled and we saw she had cut her two front teeth - just like the song Grin

I helped my DC through teething with teething powders, cold teething rings, paracetamol at bedtime and lots of cuddles.

Rubbing her gums with a clean finger, simple but works for us

Same as most above, breastfeeding when asked, cuddles and something cold to gnaw on.

Ashton and Parsons teething powder and pain relief medicine ibuprofen/paracetamol were the things that worked for my babies.

Keeping teething toys, toothbrushes and her plastic spoons in the fridge helped my DD during the day. At night, it was Calpol and cuddles!

My DS had teeth like he was giving birth, hours of agony, sleepless nights, then something so perfect and small appeared and brought such joy.
He went on to have 20 though, I stopped after 2.

When I was a baby it was cotton wads soaked in whisky! lol, I dunno, maybe it helped seeing as I never touched alcohol growing up!
With my babies it was all just those wee holders that you can fill with frozen fruit or carrot, and you click the lid on, and the fruit/food is covered by a mesh and they can gum on it happily and safely!
Those little red cheeks when the babes are teething bless 'em! x

I blend up fruit into a smoothie and then freeze in wee ice lolly moulds, these really help my baby. If everything else fails I use baby nurofen.

Distraction, distraction, distraction....and a damp Muslin cloth placed in the freezer to chew on. When that didn’t work, mainly in the middle of the night and no amount of distraction was working then a dose of ibuprofen/ paracetamol and lots of cuddles and reassurance.

The best thing ever recommended to me was 'Ashton & Parsons Infants Powders' - I never believed it would work & help as much as it did!

Calpol was the only thing that helped mine when they were teething

I used teething toys and carried antibacterial wipes with me when out and about (the one for teethers and dummies) as she always dropped them. I also had a clip to attach the teether to her clothes (but didn't use it much).
