Balancing staying healthy with the demands of busy work and family life can be tough. With that in mind, Premier Global NASM - who offer training courses, supported by their unique 'live learning through digital technology' methodology, in fitness, personal training and nutrition - would like to hear your tips for nutrition and staying healthy.

Here’s what Premier Global NASM has to say: “Our Certified Nutrition Coach programme was created in response to the need for scientifically proven and validated nutrition information. Our aim is to empower as many people as possible with the right nutritional information suited to them – as opposed to following the latest celebrity diet trend.

Combining this need with a holistic approach that takes into consideration clients’ various fitness levels, backgrounds, religions, and other circumstances, ensures our Nutrition Certification, unlike others in the market, isn’t just a “one-size-fits-all” approach.

We spent years developing the most comprehensive Nutrition Certification available today, working with over 20 experts in the fields of nutrition, metabolism, physiology, psychology, behaviour sciences, and more to create and validate every aspect of the course.”

Do you make sure you have healthy snacks like fruit or nuts on your desk at work to prevent the call of the shared biscuits? What are your go-to ‘emergency snacks’ for when hunger or hanger strikes away from meal time? If you’ve experienced pregnancy cravings, how have you managed these while ensuring you get the nutrients you need?

Whatever your tips for nutrition and staying healthy below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list) as well as the Premier Global NASM Certified Nutrition Coach programme (worth £749).

Thanks and good luck!

I love pistachios! I'm not really a fan of fruits though. But I love chilli peanuts, pistachios and almonds (as long as it's roasted).

I also love veggie crisps.

The main thing I have though is water as most of the time when I think I'm hungry, I'm actually just very thirsty.

pinkpetal2 · 27/09/2020 21:59

Did anybody win?

I have recently been adding fibre to my diet with the aim of boosting satiety and improving gut health. So many of us lack the right amount of both soluble and insoluble fibre and it seems to be helping me to avoid afternoon energy slumps. Adding chia seeds to smoothies and salads has been a game changer!

Motheratlast123 · 06/11/2020 15:22

Wholefoods as much of the time. And plant based where possible. I find you can eat as much as you like and don't get hungry.

Hopezibah · 07/11/2020 21:30

For me, I tell myself that even if I only manage 5 mins of fitness it is better than nothing and once I get started then often I do more than 5 minutes anyway!

Evening snacking is also my nemesis so brushing teeth early on in the evening to try to avoid snacking is another tip.

Water is your friend

sheilads105 · 10/11/2020 09:48

I'm a firm believer in balance. Yes to fruit and veg but also yes to a chocolate now and again. We were taught the food pyramid at school and it still makes sense. I try to home cook as much as possible and home bake too. Then I know what is in my food. I am teaching my kids about where food comes from and we grew some tomatoes over the summer. We all love trail mix as a little snack/treat and I have a bag in my desk at work.

@JustineBMumsnet just bumping this post - when will you be selecting a winner (thinking of a mumsnetter and her Christmas shopping Smile )

ReallyBigPlans · 12/11/2020 11:33

Cut up carrots at the start of the week and keep them in water in the fridge to snack on throughout the week! Have dips/soft cheese ready to keep it interesting.

Also buy less snacks so we have to eat the healthy stuff!

Sid98 · 13/11/2020 04:58

Eating plenty of fruit and vegetables

flowersanam · 13/11/2020 05:16

Drinking plenty of water and eating fruit

Sleepybumble · 13/11/2020 09:26

We have plenty of easy go to healthy snacks to make sure we don't have the option of grabbing something else. Fruit, wholegrain cracker type things. Sourdough for toast with mushrooms is a go to for those days were more is needed

jacqui5366 · 17/11/2020 14:52

@JustineBMumsnet this is quite an old discussion - when will you be drawing a winner (would be great for a fellow mumsnetter before Christmas). thanks Smile

sophiefx · 03/12/2020 11:33

Meal planning and no snacking definitely helps! I'm no professional by any means but have recently lost 2 stone and am trying to take a bit more care of my body!

Unsurechicken · 03/12/2020 14:21

Meal planning tends to be the same over the month,

Jacket potato with tuna and salad
Spaghetti and meatballs
Roast chicken
Chicken breast (griddled) veg and rice

I really try to balance the kids meals working on a ‘thirds’ plate so smaller plates for everyone and 1/3rd veg 1/3 meat/fish 1/3 carbs

isitsnowingyet · 04/12/2020 11:11

I eat low carb - try to stick to no carb - as I'm pre diabetic.

sashh · 04/12/2020 11:16

I get my main meal from meals on wheels, it means I get at least one of my 5 a day and I eat no matter how good / bad my health is.

Ph and I take advice from dieticians not nutritionists.

HannahLI · 05/12/2020 08:12

I think for me one of my top tips for staying healthy is to drink lots of water, I have a bottle so I can see how much I have had, I also find that this stops me getting too hungry. Water is always the under rated tool and once you get into a habit of including it it really helps. I also buy snacks for the kids that I don’t like so that I won’t be tempted to eat them and always have nuts and fresh fruit and veg on hand to snack on to.

Serender · 19/12/2020 23:48

I like snacking on nuts and if I have a little chocolate craving, Lindt dark chocolate does it for me every time!

PatrishaPatel · 20/12/2020 00:16

I'm on the keto way of eating (very low carb), and I find I don't actually crave snacks as I'm always feeling satiated from my meals. When I'm on my time of the month and get cravings, dark chocolate usually helps.

HobNobAddict · 15/01/2021 16:34

@JustineBMumsnet just bumping this - it's a really old thread, will you be choosing a winner of the voucher - I'm sure a mumsnetter would really appreciate this x @JustineBMumsnet

TheDeckchairGardener · 23/01/2021 07:45

I’m a bit of an all or nothing person so I try to avoid snacking. I don’t believe in diets but have found the ‘No S diet’ to work well as a sustainable eating plan/ way of life. It simply means no snacking, no sweets and no seconds apart from on days that begin with S. It advocates eating three plates of food a day with the beauty being that you can have whatever you want on that plate (without piling it high)!

CathBookworm · 29/01/2021 19:45

Loads of fruit and veg as snacks, and reduce caffeine and alcohol.

Sleepybumble · 30/01/2021 16:46

I find if I stay hydrated and eat a well balanced meal 3 times a day I don't want to snack.

foxessocks · 01/02/2021 20:53

Smoothie are great for me , I don't eat much fruit but love a smoothie with kale in for extra benefits!
