This activity is now closed.

Getting your DC to sleep can be a challenge worthy of an award. It can be especially difficult when your children change the way they respond to toys, songs, or any other sleep aids you have in your parental arsenal. To celebrate the launch of their new Moon and Me Toy range, Hasbro would like you to share your tips for how you succeed in getting your child to sleep or what has helped you manage your child’s sleeping habits in the past.

Here’s what Hasbro has to say about their Moon and Me toys:
“Our lovable new toy range features favourite characters from the magical world of Moon and Me. From figures and play-sets that are perfect for playtime to soft plush that little ones will love snuggling with at bedtime! “

What are your tips and tricks for getting your children to sleep? Have you worked out a magic routine, or do you have a favourite sleep toy? Do you rely on sleep songs or other comforters to help you? Does TV make up a part of your child’s sleep routine? Who has a bigger say in picking up a sleep toy - you or your children? Does your DC already have a preferred sleep aid?

Please share your tips for getting your child to sleep below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list) and a toy bundle from the new Moon and Me toy range.

Thanks and good luck!

For us, routine has been key. It's always homework or TV, dinner, bath, story, bed. We don't use songs or music, as we found them to actually be a stimulant, and the children all have their favourite toys, that they have chosen themselves. We keep calm, stick to the routine, and all is good here!

juju3 · 07/08/2019 20:45

Try to stick to a regular routine which does NOT include napping during the day

freefan · 07/08/2019 21:05

Routine and winding down time with bath, supper and story

patchysmum · 07/08/2019 21:11

No screen time for at least an hour before bedtime, bath and story, make sure the room is not too hot or cold. Black out curtains are a good buy,For children who want endless stories, audio tapes are a great idea,The child should pick her own sleep toy as he/she will feel more comfortable with one she has chosen

It may not sit will for some but I've always found ignoring them slightly helps and my son is such a good sleeper still at age two.
Started off with letting him whine for 5 mins , then gave him a book to occupy himself and it worked.
Hes never been one for cuddles though.

ROUTINE. It's so important, and kids thrive off routine. Having them get their favourite toy tucked up in bed before a story is simple but effective

helly27 · 07/08/2019 22:02

Make sure the sleeping environment is good and a good routine to wind down and then should become no problem

potofdreams4 · 07/08/2019 22:21

We have a routine of bathtime, stories, (toilet trip and sip of water), then Headspace meditation app, followed by relaxing music with a nightlight

pfcpompeysarah · 07/08/2019 22:26

Mine always had a bath, then pj's on, then a cuddly toy and a story to listen to and that was it, out like lights!

katieskatie82 · 07/08/2019 22:32

a good bedtime routine is important. I get my little one bathed and relaxed before bed. Bed time story then lights off.

Marg2k8 · 07/08/2019 22:34

I don't really have any tips. It was always difficult to get my daughter to sleep as a baby.

lhlee62 · 08/08/2019 00:02

I don't have that many issues, sometimes my kids ask to go to bed if they've had a long or energetic day. I have always kept the same routine, but they were good sleepers from birth.

fairydustandpixies · 08/08/2019 03:43

Could I have a top tip for a good sleep routine for myself?! Grin

danigrace · 08/08/2019 03:47

I go to bed with my toddler and baby and still feed and cuddle to sleep (safely and as nature intended). I love it and they sleep well so it works for us.

frances93 · 08/08/2019 07:24

Make sure they have plenty of stimulation in the day time to burn off energy, I always try to do something like the park or if its raining we dance to music. Or something to stimulate the mind, like making cakes etc.
DD normally goes to bed around 7pm, so we have tea time at 5pm then play with toys. A warm bath and into pj's, story time and then bed.

Doubtfuldaphne · 08/08/2019 07:50

My dd loves to have a bath first then a story and a drink then I make up stories which always make her laugh! Finally I switch on her favourite bed time toy which plays soothing music and projects stars on to her wall. This has worked brilliantly well since she was very little and she’s 8 now!

Routine !!!

Helsbells68 · 08/08/2019 09:58

keeping to a routine as much as possible helps but make sure you all have quiet time together before they go to bed

myusername12345 · 08/08/2019 10:09

Routine has been the same since she was tiny. We now do a little massage as she's lying in bed and that seems to help her drift off.

cocochips · 08/08/2019 12:43

Having a good bedtime routine and a calming environment

michael888 · 08/08/2019 13:35

For our DC, we find that a warm bath and a story just before bed works wonders. Also, making them feel content/happy seems to make them feel drowsy and sleepy.

Pmliu · 08/08/2019 13:35

I usually give my little ones a warm bath, give them warm milk, read a story and play lullabies on my phone, that usually helps them sleep. On Amazon music there is a fantastic lullaby station, it's so soothing, works brilliantly on all 3 of my little ones, it even puts me and my husband to sleep, I highly recommend it.

JeanieJardine55 · 08/08/2019 14:08

With ds1 and ds2 routine was the key. Bath, bottle, teeth, bed. I said goodnight, turned out the light, shut the door and heard from them again in the morning.

Ds3, on the other hand, was dreadful. In the end I found that letting him fall asleep in my bed (with the light on and the door open) was the only way to get him to sleep. Fortunately he learned to sleep in his own bed before he got too heavy for me to carry.

mccattack111 · 08/08/2019 14:44

Routine, routine, routine! So important.
And Ewan the Sheep is a lifesaver!

Alwaysoverthinkingit34 · 08/08/2019 16:19

My top tip is to use the same song to sing him to sleep every night. It has become a trigger for him to close his eyes at naps and bed time and he falls asleep within a few minutes.
