This activity is now closed.

Getting your DC to sleep can be a challenge worthy of an award. It can be especially difficult when your children change the way they respond to toys, songs, or any other sleep aids you have in your parental arsenal. To celebrate the launch of their new Moon and Me Toy range, Hasbro would like you to share your tips for how you succeed in getting your child to sleep or what has helped you manage your child’s sleeping habits in the past.

Here’s what Hasbro has to say about their Moon and Me toys:
“Our lovable new toy range features favourite characters from the magical world of Moon and Me. From figures and play-sets that are perfect for playtime to soft plush that little ones will love snuggling with at bedtime! “

What are your tips and tricks for getting your children to sleep? Have you worked out a magic routine, or do you have a favourite sleep toy? Do you rely on sleep songs or other comforters to help you? Does TV make up a part of your child’s sleep routine? Who has a bigger say in picking up a sleep toy - you or your children? Does your DC already have a preferred sleep aid?

Please share your tips for getting your child to sleep below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list) and a toy bundle from the new Moon and Me toy range.

Thanks and good luck!

Sing lullabies to them. Or play then on CD if you're not a good singer.

Routine and staying visibly calm even when I don't feel it!

By giving dd a bath in low lighting, singing to her while I got her dry, reading a story (even when she was very little) and then settling her into her cot her body and brain sort of 'knew' it was time to go to sleep.

A good routine and a soothing, quiet environment! My daughter has always been a good sleeper (once she is asleep!) but actually 'falling asleep' doesn't always work the way I think it will! We try and follow the same routine everyday: tea, a bath or a shower, brush teeth and a story in bed. We also try and keep it quiet upstairs (no tv or radio on etc) to teach her that it's bedtime and it's time to go to sleep. My little one does have a cuddly toy and a dummy which comfort her and help her to fall asleep.

Having a routine and set bed time is the only things that work. No matter what the day had in store the bed time is always at 7pm. My toddler sometimes objects but a new habit of asking him to see 'how fast he can run' up the stairs has really helped into making it a fun experience!

Routine, routine routine... Dinner together, then a bath followed by story time! Works a treat!

Cailin7 · 07/08/2019 15:19

like others when our DCs were babies we just kept a routine of bath, milk and bed. They each had a teddy they liked. We found a black out blind useful in the summer evenings

A Bedtime story works everytime in our house (it still works with me too although hubby gets mad when he finds I can't answer questions about the story the next day!)

angiehoggett · 07/08/2019 15:39

A bedtime story usually works and if they're unsettled or unwell they like a hot chocolate as a treat but try not to do that too often.

IonaAilidh11 · 07/08/2019 15:41

stick to a routine, bath story then bed

jhocknull · 07/08/2019 15:48

White noise seems to work if played on the ipad quietly.

Elizasmum02 · 07/08/2019 16:06

lavender tea works a treat!

Mitcholiver · 07/08/2019 16:13

We have a nightlight and have the radio on Classic FM on very low. We read him a story and leave him to sleep by himself.

kungfupidge · 07/08/2019 16:16

routine is key if you have good routine and stick to it i guarantee it wil work wonders xx

I read my son a book, he likes Mr Men at the moment. I then stroke his hair and sometimes I sing him a song. I have sung "Feed the birds" from Mary Poppins since he was born and it always sends him to sleep. Thinking about it, maybe he is trying to get away from my singing by falling asleep so quickly! hahaha

Routine helped us a lot, dc had severe reflux, so didn’t help we had to feed every 2 hours for 6 months
However a bath , cuddle & bunny resolved any following sleep issues

backfarblackcar · 07/08/2019 16:47

We mostly do the same routine, teeth, pyjamas, reading and bed. Some nights a shower or bath. It doesn't necessarily get them to sleep but it's just a routine to give them a bit of a wind down.
They often like to read when I leave them and in the summer it's light so they don't get to sleep as easily. I'll put nice relaxing music on or an audio book too. When they where all babies it was white noise.
Nothing is foolproof but I've been relatively lucky in that they don't tend to wake in the night and wake not uncomfortable early in the morning.

I found telling my boys I would keep returning to check on them every five minutes worked wonders and of course 5 minutes stretched to seven minutes then to nine minutes and by then they were usually asleep

flowersfromheaven · 07/08/2019 18:55

Reading a little story book, I love the one's that make all the animal noises so she can join in and then My fantastic singing which always does the trick. I think she just pretends to be a sleep so I stop singing.

Catmadroo · 07/08/2019 19:23

We have a difficult time getting my son to sleep he has autism and sensory processing disorder and struggles with his eyes at night, I have found deep massage to his palms helps to calm him down, and normally have to resort to an ice lolly as it gives him a different sensory sensation and I have to just let it run its course,

A story and the Twilight spray from Lush. It's such a soothing scent.

Minnibix · 07/08/2019 19:47

Definitely get into a routine, tea, bath, bedtime stories then its sleep time

amanda08 · 07/08/2019 19:59

Routine! We always followed play time, bath time, book time, sleep time and it worked like a dream for us😊

hmariez · 07/08/2019 20:06

I seriously have no tips....mine do not like sleep and find about a million reasons every night to why they can’t go to bed yet.

Scruff123 · 07/08/2019 20:29

Our little boys had a routeine since he was very little, nice relaxing time before bed, milk, cuddles and a story book and our son snuggles up and falls asleep

iloveadsxx1 · 07/08/2019 20:29

Keeping a routine in our household is the way forward! Although we do have lots of fun on the holidays etc..

Settling them after a bath, brushing our teeth and reading a story! :)
