This activity is now closed.

Getting your DC to sleep can be a challenge worthy of an award. It can be especially difficult when your children change the way they respond to toys, songs, or any other sleep aids you have in your parental arsenal. To celebrate the launch of their new Moon and Me Toy range, Hasbro would like you to share your tips for how you succeed in getting your child to sleep or what has helped you manage your child’s sleeping habits in the past.

Here’s what Hasbro has to say about their Moon and Me toys:
“Our lovable new toy range features favourite characters from the magical world of Moon and Me. From figures and play-sets that are perfect for playtime to soft plush that little ones will love snuggling with at bedtime! “

What are your tips and tricks for getting your children to sleep? Have you worked out a magic routine, or do you have a favourite sleep toy? Do you rely on sleep songs or other comforters to help you? Does TV make up a part of your child’s sleep routine? Who has a bigger say in picking up a sleep toy - you or your children? Does your DC already have a preferred sleep aid?

Please share your tips for getting your child to sleep below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list) and a toy bundle from the new Moon and Me toy range.

Thanks and good luck!

My daughters always had their favourite soft toy going to bed and I found that a lavender pillow spray after a lukewarm bath helped them to drop off. Routine is always best so they know that the end result is them going to sleep.

Routine.
Our 1 year old has no naps after 2pm. He has a bath, book, milk, lay in with star lamp on every night.. no matter how rushed we are, falls asleep in his cot with his star lamp on and sneak in to switch it off once he's asleep.
A pain if we go away or he stays at grandparents as the star lamp has to go as well but anything for a good night's sleep.
Oh and sleep improved once we got a blackout blind! No more 5am wake ups.

a good routine has worked with all 3 of mine, all asleep for 8pm, its important to get some adult time x

Emmamaryd · 11/08/2019 21:48

Bedtime story, room at a comfortable ntemperature, blackout curtains and a teddy bear.

A set routine whenever possible really helps

We make a big deal out of separating day & night, day time is light with lots of fun & playing. Night time is for dark rooms - we close all curtains and have low lighting through the house, we are quieter, have stories, nursery rhymes & sleepy cuddles with mum & dad & cuddle the teddies in the cot! She seems to respond to this really well and likes to settle down herself during the evenings, mainly I think because that's what we do!

have a good routine and stick to it all week including the weekend.

We have bedtime at 8pm and our run up to it looks like:

630pm TV/Screens off
7pm bath & clean teeth
7:30pm story time
8pm light outs and bed time

we are really strict with this even in the holidays although we will for special occasions let it slip but only as one offs and not consecutive nights in a row

Routine has always been key for us. My little ones go to bed at the same time every day and naturally rise at the same time too. We always do a bedtime story at 7pm and then they are reliably sleeping and sleep 11-12 solid. Routine has been one of the best sleep aids for both of my boys x

baconbap · 11/08/2019 22:47

bedtime story

lolamia91 · 12/08/2019 05:47

bath time, wind down with stories and a limit of evening electronics!

piggypoo · 12/08/2019 06:06

My top tips for getting the little darlings to sleep are to get them running round in the daytime, I take my DD and DS, ages 5 and 8, to gymnastics or other activity on a weekend, then they help me with the shopping in the supermarket, points are awarded for who can push the trolley with the wonky wheel the best, home, dinner not too late so they've got indigestion, a lovely warm bath at about 7pm, I read them a story in their room, they aren't allowed any gadgets in there, I insist on this, as their room is the place to rest and unwind, we put their nightlights on, and I don't deviate from this routine if at all possible. On school days or weekends, they go to bed the same time. I find this helps as their body clock seems to start them in unwind mode naturally, and they are ready to go to bed. :)

cathyov · 12/08/2019 07:39

The night time routine has always been bath, cuddles, story and a kiss good night (remembering to kiss their favourite cuddle toy too!). Being strict worked with my trio and not giving into going back up just telling them to go to sleep and leaving the landing light on until I went to bed. I enjoyed the special bedtime routine and perhaps that and being relaxed about it made it work.

mishknight · 12/08/2019 08:46

We stick to a routine of milk, brush teeth, story time and then sleeptime. No devices or anything stimulating in the lead up to bedtime.

eve394 · 12/08/2019 09:30

My son loves buses and bus journeys so to get him to go to sleep I tell him to close his eyes and take a bus journey to a particular place. If he's still not asleep by the time he gets there then to go all the way back on the bus in his mind!

legorainbowninja · 12/08/2019 09:57

i have a set time for my child to go up stairs (7:30)
then we get pjs on
brush teeth
have a bath
after all that i put him into bed and we read 2 "open eyes" stories and 2 "close eyes" stories and then he is usually fast asleep
i stay with him for 5-10 min after to make sure he dosnt wake up then leave

PMT1 · 12/08/2019 10:20

Routine is a Must, warm milky drink, teeth then story. Tucked in with an array of Teddies nightlight on..

sadiewoohoo · 12/08/2019 11:17

Routine routine routine and never let it slack! The final part of our bedtime routine is a story and I always find a gentle back tickle works wonders for making a child feel sleepy

pixelwife · 12/08/2019 11:50

My top tip is to make the process leisurely so you aren't expecting your children to go from a million miles an hour to fast asleep in 10 minutes. I have established a good bedtime routine which involves a bubble bath with a good chat about the day and then storytime before snuggles and sleep which works really well.

xjodie · 12/08/2019 14:22

We don't have a strict bedtime routine, the only thing that stays the same each night is the time they go to bed. We are quite strict with it and even on holiday, they still go to bed at their normal time unless there is a show on that we want to watch. I've never had any problems getting them to go to sleep, only my eldest recently, she has just turned 11 and I think her problem is when there is a lot on her mind (she has just had SATS and is starting secondary school in September). She finds reading in bed helps a lot to wind down.

IWouldBeSuperb · 12/08/2019 14:36

A good routine and always reading before bed, no screens!

New 'special' PJs and teddies have helped when going through a rough sleeping patch too.

But mostly accepting that sleeping straight through in their own bed every night isn't the be all and end all - a more chilled approach can save your sanity!

purplaa · 12/08/2019 14:50

A sleep story! There is lots available online (Calm app). They work really well :)

tishist · 12/08/2019 14:56

An established routine helps, preferably with a bath and warm drink before reading a book.

Jocelynne123 · 12/08/2019 15:44

A good routine and warnings that it's almost bedtime. Then a cuddle in bed with a story and a white noise machine. I swear by white noise and sun set machines. Her sleeping has improved a million percent once I bought these xx

Borderkitt · 12/08/2019 17:59

A nice bath after tea and no electronics for 2 hours before bed to help their mind relax so they can drift off in a nice comforting sleep

Blondie1982 · 12/08/2019 20:55

A good routine that starts on day 1 and a calming relaxed atmosphere
