This competition has now closed

In celebration of the DoubleTree by Hilton Cookie becoming the first ever food item to be baked fresh in space, Hilton wants to see what your children think the first hotel on the moon should look like.

We’d like all budding artists aged between 5-11 to create their most imaginative drawings for a chance to win a trip for the whole family to the Royal Observatory, complete with an overnight stay at DoubleTree by Hilton Greenwich.

DoubleTree by Hilton says: “As the world’s first global hotel company, Hilton has pioneered hospitality for over 100 years. In fact, Barron Hilton, son of founder Conrad Hilton, first dreamt of taking Hilton to the moon back in 1958. Now, new technology has brought his dream closer to reality and Hilton wants to hear from the next generation about what they think the first hotel on the moon should look like.
The more creative, the better, with extra points awarded for inventive use of the DoubleTree Cookie within the picture!”

Once your children have created their masterpieces, please post a photograph to this thread, alongside their age and a short description of what the hotel on the moon will feature.

One winner will win a family trip to the Royal Observatory, complete with an overnight stay at DoubleTree by Hilton Greenwich. All who post their child’s drawing on the thread below will also be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

You need to be a registered Mumsnetter to take part so if you are not and want to enter please register here.

Best of luck - we can’t wait to see your drawings!

DS is 5 and three quarters and here is his entry.

He thinks the hotel is a flying hotel which people get to by rocket. The hotel has sliding doors to enter and a chimney. From the hotel you can see Saturn and the stars.

Also love it!

My 11 year old daughter has designed a hotel that is also a space ship.
It is currently on the moon but it actually travels from planet to planet like a space cruise ship. Its next scheduled destination is Mars.
A guest is having a fly around outside whilst also eating one of the cookies that the ship randomly fires out l, from time to time, for people or passing aliens to snack on.
She has a vivid and rather unconventional imagination! Grin

My 8 year old daughter has designed her moon hotel. The first picture is of the outside which shows a lovely moon and stars pattern. Guests pick up their gravity packs when they arrive at the hotel.
The second picture shows the inside.
On the ground floor there is the space cookie, space hot dog and space cake room. Everyone's favourite foods.
The first floor is the bedrooms.
The second floor is the cinema room.
The third floor is the flying around in no gravity room.
And the top floor hosts the swimming pool and space observation room.
What more could any guest ask for!

First off, the hotel has to have an airlock door so the hotel doesn’t get depressurised.

Next, my eldest son, 8, thinks it will be adventurers who want to stay at the moon hotel. Each room should have spacesuits so guests can go out exploring. There was going to be a hot tub but it transformed into a surf studio. There is a floating cafe but you can anchor your table as well, if you want. And the rooms should be homey with rugs and bright colours.

My youngest son, 6, want high sleeper beds with space underneath for a library and den building supplies. All room should be blue.

This is my eldest daughter Emily's (11) entry. It's keep her busy for most of the day so thankyou! However, apologies for the length of her 'description' which is because she used my phone to type it up and spent so much time I accused her of playing games on it. I think she made it long to prove me wrong.

I've just read it and it's clear that she's never paid for a hotel room! Extra rooms just £10!!!!!! She informed me it was necessary to include the 'architect' plan as well as the drawing. I do like that she's thought about the staff!!

Welcome to Luna hotels! As you enter, you will notice there isn’t a door, and there is only a strange green aura. Don’t be scared, because this is how we keep oxeygen in and aliens out! Just simply walk through it .After you check in, you can go to your hotel room. In each suite there are 2 switches, one to turn off the lights, and one to turn on privacy glass, so no one can see you if your having a relaxing bath.In each suite there is a kitchen, 2 bedrooms, one bedroom for mum and dad, and the other for up to four children (each with on-suite bathroom ) and a lounge with a cinema TV. If you have more than four children, dont worry! Just add on another bed (for £10 each!) . Now to the part that makes our hotel so unique: the solo pod mode . Enjoy the veiws of earth and space while floating above all the other pods. You yourself do not float , only your suite will. It is not dangerous as you are suspended by super strong and strechy rope. We also have many activities you can do in the hotel : Go to the gym, drop your children off in the soft play area , go to the youth centre, drop your pet of in the pet park, enjoy being in zero gravity, grab a snack at the cafe diner and so much more.If you are considering working at the hotel, there is a staff hotel identical to the luna hotel just a space shuttle ride away from it. The only twist is that it is completely empty in each pod,so you can decorate it with personal belongings to remind you of home.
No wonder we are the most family freindly moon hotel!

I forgot to paste her looong description in the first post! It's above. Sorry!

MorbidMuch · 26/07/2019 17:21

Age 6

People sometimes think that the moon is made out of cheese, so I made a hotel that looks like it's made out of cheese.

I added a red carpet for detail and the brown bits on the circles are supposed to be chocolate chip cookies.

This is the First Hotel on the Moon by DD aged 8.

It's super-colourful to contrast against all the dark space outside. There's a space trampoline for gravity free bouncing but very importantly, there's a "stopper bar" to prevent guests from floating away.

The aliens are butlers and chefs.

The "relax area" is padded with pillows so no one gets hurt should they float into the wall or ceiling.

There's also a pool with giant bubbles.

Guests can travel back to earth via a giant slide

Finally, DS1 age 10 and DS2 ('rockit' man) age 4 who helped with their moon hotel.
We are organised with water and dried food (all our favourites - hey the guests have to be pizza fans) on the bottom layer, chickins (chickens) to produce eggs for the guests. The rockit (rocket) is stored indoors (you never know if a solar storm may damage it)
The next floor is grassed where there is a park and eating area.
The 2nd floor is our sleeping, showering and television area.
The top floor (with a reinforced floor) has apple trees which serve a duel purpose of giving us fresh fruit, and oxygen to help is breathe.
DS1 said the walls are made to suck in the carbon dioxide and give oxygen back - we also a chimney air circulation purification system.

DD aged 8 designed the Moonlight Hotel. The bedrooms are in separate pods attached to the main hotel building with every pod having its own oxygen supply. There is rocket parking for everyone and each pod has its own telescope to fully enjoy the views from the moon. Cookies are available at reception. There is a lift down to the moon surface for guided moon walks and alien spotting! The Moonlight Hotel even has a handy signpost back to Earth to help you find your way back home.

DS aged 6 designed The Moon Hotel. There is space for five rockets to park at the hotel. There are 12 guest rooms with windows to look out into space to enjoy the views of asteroids and stars. Near the front door there are special cookies made from edible planets for guests to enjoy.
On the top floors of the hotel there are scientists are studying a big blue gem they have found in space.

They are both v proud of their designs and i am pleased it kept them entertained for ages!

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 29/07/2019 16:35

Here is the entry from DS aged 7.
This is what he says...

Welcome to the ultimate moon hotel. When you go in Reception you are given something nice like flowers or something. There are food, toy and paper shops on the bottom floor and a place to park rockets when they come up from Earth.
To get to the rooms there is a glass elevator which means you can see everything like the stars and planets and stuff. The tree trunk is made from moon rock and the tree is made from steel. At the top of the tree are rooms for the staff.
The VIP rooms can have two people in them, the IP rooms can have four and the P rooms can have 6. Inside the rooms are toilets, beds and a table. There’s also a fridge, oven, freezer, microwave and a luggage room. And TV and internet connection. They all have air con to be hot or cold.
At the hotel you can go to the beach or the pool or trampoline park where the trampolines change colour. There are chutes to take you to the beach or the pool.
The hotel is like a dome and the outside walls are glass and the tree is protected with glass outside so the metal doesn’t rust up.
You can eat lunch or dinner in the room or you can buy food at the food shop and go to the snack bar for pudding. At the snack bar they sell ice cream, donuts, slushies, milk and fresh water.
The hover couch can carry an entire family to have a float around. If it goes out of the dome it will automatically make a glass field around it so you can breathe.
You can go for a moon walk. The man in the picture has done and he is close up but the hotel is far away otherwise he would be too big to fit in the door [I swear he said this and has never watched Father Ted 😂].
I would love to visit my hotel so that I can see the moon, planets and stars close up because you don’t see much down here,

This is designed by DD aged 7

I thought it was a good idea to make a rocket since it's on the moon. The lift is a rocket that actually works.

I have tried to upload dd drawing twice now, but it doesn't seem to appear on the thread despite getting a success message. anyone can help?

Caillou · 03/08/2019 09:56

just in time before it is too late, this is dd7 version of the 1st hotel on the moon. she spent forever on it, I thought it will never be finished in time!

she wrote the description, but in case you can't read it, here it is again.

welcome to the first moon hotel!

the moon hotel is only a few hours away from planet earth, so come and enjoy the wonderful features of our magnificent hotel in space!

once you have landed your rocket on the roof, gently float down to the alien doors and meet us at the reception desk.

unpack your suitcase and look through the galaxy windows. Have a good rest on our floating space airbeds and get ready for the next day. it will be so much fun!

if you feel like being active then do one of these activities: rocket rides (much more fun than donkey rides), moon golf or our famous double tree cookies hunt (be quick they are so yummy!).

if you feel less active, then either do alien spotting or go to the space viewing point and enjoy the beauty of the solar system but do NOT look at the sun without eye protection!

we hope you have a good stay!

My daughter, Trinity, aged 7, has designed "The moonicorn hotel" as the first hotel on the moon. It's built out of moon rock and special rainbow moon rock. It has a space swimming pool where you can float about in space but are attached by a long cord so you don't float away completely. Moon flowers grow in the garden. And there is an observatory for looking at planet earth. There are special creatures called moonicorns (they are like unicorns but can only be found on the moon) and guests can travel around on the moonicorns to have magical space adventures.

This one is from my youngest daughter who is 5. She's drawn a Moon pod hotel where you each have a little pod with a little house in it and in the middle is a playground - she's on the slide. It's all pink because apparently that's the only colour allowed on the moon. I'm not sure what the blue bits are she didn't fully explain, but it's pretty much a holiday village from earth inside a pod on the moon! I tried to explain about the cookies so she said all there was to eat was cookies.
