This activity is now closed

Everyone needs a little boost now and then. We all have those frantically busy days - whether at work, at home taking care of the kids or just rushing around trying to keep all those proverbial plates spinning – and it’s easy to forget how to keep yourself well nourished and energised. Not only can making better nutritional choices help keep you energised, but also little emotional boosts such as listening to your favourite song can also have a huge effect on how we handle life’s demands and whatever the day throws at us! With that in mind Nairn’s would really like to know what gives you an energy boost?

Here’s what Nairn’s have to say: “Nairn’s are all about ‘grabbing life by the oats’ and over the next few weeks we’ll be bringing you some exclusive, energising tips - we’d like to think it’s a pretty good fit considering just how naturally energising oats can be for you. You’ll find interviews with our inspiring and energetic ambassadors, expert advice from our resident nutritional therapist and loads more over on our website.

So, if you’ve got a go-to snack or energising habit that you swear by to keep you up and running, why not share it with the community? You could be lucky enough to win a hamper of incredible goodies from Nairn’s and friends, worth £150!”

What part of the day are you most likely to feel the need for an energy boost? What are the danger signs that your child’s energy is flagging? What foods or snacks do you give them to stop them getting ‘hangry’?! Do you get an energy boost from having a bit of family time? Maybe you get a boost from listening to your favourite playlist on your way to work? Would you say that exercise is what helps give you a boost? And if so what snacks do you eat to make sure you keep your energy going after exercise? What are your favourite breakfasts and lunches that help keep you going for the day? And what foods do you avoid that make you ‘crash’? How do you incorporate oats into your diet?

Whatever gives you an energy boost, share them on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a Nairn’s hamper worth £150 and one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

A ten minute power nap can make a huge difference to my energy levels. I just have to have the willpower to keep it to 10 mins and not roll back over and have an hour or two!!

I can't manage without breakfast. Granola at the moment - slow release. Still need a good lunch though!

I love Porridge for breakfast as it tasty, filling & low fat.

I get an energy boost by escaping the housing estate I live on, to a local green area. It's like escaping to a different world when me & the dog go through the gate to it. Gone are the screaming kids, cars & noisy builders and instead it's just the sound of the birds & plenty of fresh air & scenery = bliss.

Homemade flapjacks and a nice cup of tea gives me a morning boost and a banana or fruit with lunch. I have never tried Oatcakes but would love to try these as a healthier option

Mid-morning eat the seeded toast I couldn't face first thing with mug of tea. I'm sure seeds and caffeine create a buz!

If i'm tired (ha when aren't i?!) I play a couple of my favourite upbeat tunes when i'm getting washed/dressed to wake me up and put a smile on my face. Food wise a cuppa and some dark chocolate digestives are my guilty pleasure, but will give me a mid morning or afternoon boost when i need it!

Energy boost usually needed around 3:30pm!

Danger signs my son's energy is flagging are when hes getting cross, grumpy or wanting sugary food.

He loves anything with cheese so usually has oatcakes/crackers with cheese and some fruit or a banana milkshake.

I actually find family time takes away my energy rather than boosting it, although I do love it!

Music and exercise efinitely give me an energy boost.

I eat post-workout bars or balls that I make, oatcakes are also a staple in this house with hummus and tomato or cheese and apple/grapes

Sugary foods and too much bread make me crash, definitely. I try to look at the gi of foods.

I have porridge for breakfast, frequently have oatcakes at lunch/snack, make muesli or healthier bars with oats in, banana and oat muffins etc

Our oatcakea are always nairns! I like all the different varieties you get.

Around 10-11am I begin to flag if I don't have a snack. I tend to have some sort of oaty flapjack thing or a banana for a slow release of energy. Occasionally I mix nuts, seeds and a couple of cubes of chocolate together in a tub to graze on.

I slump late afternoon. I usually reach for a chocolate bar but if I’m being good a bowl of fruit and yogurt helps.

A glass of apple cider vinegar and honey in cold water gives me a fabulous boost first thing.

Porridge is brilliant for mid morning dip and a cup of strong tea with vanilla soya milk at other times of day.

Nairn’s are lovely with a hunk of cheese and an apple as a treat.

I snack on dried apricots as they give that fruity taste and fibre but are more convenient than a lot of fresh fruits. Whacking Purple Rain on the CD always does the trick too!

I am always lagging in the afternoon, I find that having some fruit really helps me and I drink plenty of water to keep me refreshed.

Nairn's super seeded oat cakes for me. They are my favourite. My son prefers the cheese ones; he's coeliac so it's good he can get gluten free ones.
I should probably eat them with something but I love them on their own, and they are a really handy snack to put in my bag for blood sugar levels (hypoglycaemic).

Oatcakes and goats cheese are the best. Not Nairn’s though because if the palm oil.

I've been a fan of Nairn's oatcakes for years .. smothered in anything tbh.

More recently, I was advised to cut gluten from my diet, so was delighted to discover Nairn's gluten free offering. Just as tasty and competitively priced.

I'm thinking it's the oats that keep me going for that bit longer than other snacks!

I always know if I’m flagging and need a snack because I become really grumpy! Usually around 4pm.... My snack of choice at the moment is nuts, olives and a real coffee.
