Everyone needs a little boost now and then. We all have those frantically busy days - whether at work, at home taking care of the kids or just rushing around trying to keep all those proverbial plates spinning – and it’s easy to forget how to keep yourself well nourished and energised. Not only can making better nutritional choices help keep you energised, but also little emotional boosts such as listening to your favourite song can also have a huge effect on how we handle life’s demands and whatever the day throws at us! With that in mind Nairn’s would really like to know what gives you an energy boost?

Here’s what Nairn’s have to say: “Nairn’s are all about ‘grabbing life by the oats’ and over the next few weeks we’ll be bringing you some exclusive, energising tips - we’d like to think it’s a pretty good fit considering just how naturally energising oats can be for you. You’ll find interviews with our inspiring and energetic ambassadors, expert advice from our resident nutritional therapist and loads more over on our website.

So, if you’ve got a go-to snack or energising habit that you swear by to keep you up and running, why not share it with the community? You could be lucky enough to win a hamper of incredible goodies from Nairn’s and friends, worth £150!”

What part of the day are you most likely to feel the need for an energy boost? What are the danger signs that your child’s energy is flagging? What foods or snacks do you give them to stop them getting ‘hangry’?! Do you get an energy boost from having a bit of family time? Maybe you get a boost from listening to your favourite playlist on your way to work? Would you say that exercise is what helps give you a boost? And if so what snacks do you eat to make sure you keep your energy going after exercise? What are your favourite breakfasts and lunches that help keep you going for the day? And what foods do you avoid that make you ‘crash’? How do you incorporate oats into your diet?

Whatever gives you an energy boost, share them on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a Nairn’s hamper worth £150 and one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

As simple as sunshine for me, but if there is none of that I will confess I am a Haribo addict - just love them and give me a real boost!

Early morning walk with the dogs gets me set for the day

I find a little gardening always helps give me an energy boost, I think it's the fresh air that helps and gets me outdoors away from the ironing mountain!

It has to be my morning Cappucino, cannot do without it.

Exercise and meditation both give me a feeling of energy and pizzazz :)

a good old bowl of porridge in the morning sets me up and keeps cravings away until lunchtime, i find after lunch i have cravings around 3-4pm and that a banana sliced on nairns gluten free oatcakes seem to fill the gap without bouncing the calorie intake too high before hitting our evening tea, although when i feel a bit low i stack a bit of cheese on them! then i manage to sail through to evening tea without being too hungry (which puts me in the danger zone of grabbing something like a mars bar....eeek)!

A glass of fresh orange juice and a toasted tea cake. 😊

mrsdeedow · 15/05/2019 10:19

An energy busting smoothie normally does the trick, along with a power cereal bar/oat bar

Was33 · 15/05/2019 10:20

Well a good breakfast always helps. Me personally a good smoothie

kamaxtra · 15/05/2019 10:20

I love Nairn's fine-milled oat cakes with some coconut chocolate spread - it's divine and with a cup of coffee it peps me right up for the afternoon!

Oatcakes with crunchy peanut butter and a slice of apple - a great healthy energy boost.

nigelh66 · 15/05/2019 10:24

My energy boost is having a good nights sleep. If I've slept well I have energy to face any day,if not I'm sadly jaded for the day.

shellywkd · 15/05/2019 10:29

A nice piece of fruit or a glass of pure juice

LauraMark · 15/05/2019 10:35

For energy, I love nothing more than recharging with a nice cup of tea and a good book.

As for the oaty goodness, I throw some into my morning smoothie ... yum!

finleypop · 15/05/2019 10:38

A nice shower invigorates me, giving me energy for the day

chris8888 · 15/05/2019 10:41

Nairns cheese oatcakes with some cheese and a few grapes if Im at home. Out and about it would be some mixed nut and maybe a cereal bar.

Doodygirl2009 · 15/05/2019 10:46

A fruit salad with a glass of orange juice

maty68 · 15/05/2019 10:49

lively music

GJW11 · 15/05/2019 10:53

My first coffee of the day.

liamell · 15/05/2019 10:57

I have had to give up caffeine due to a heart problem, and therefore have lost all energy come afternoon.
My boost now is cleaning, I haul myself up and pop on some music and off I go with the hoover. Kills two birds :)

debjani · 15/05/2019 10:59

I get hungry mid afternoon as I tend to skip breakfast or have only a light one on a weekday. At weekends, I love a fried egg with steamed green beans for breakfast. Porridge with milk and sugar is a bit heavy - i dont like sugar and milk together first thing in the morning - but gluten free oats are lighter,, especially with non-dairy milk. The oats/porridge need to be creamy and fine otherwise I get a stomach ache and tired.
For my children, I give them raw carrot & cucumber or rice cakes with dips eg humus. I try to steer towards fruit. Exercise definitely gives me a boost and mental clarity eg running and walking. I have a bit of yogurt and granola afterwards if I'm hungry or an apple, some nuts and possibly a tiny bit of hard cheese. Humus makes me feel bloated and tired very quickly if I eat too much as does peanut butter

A yoghurt and a cheesy pop tune give me the energy I need to keep up with two energetic toddlers 😀

WhiteKnuckleRide · 15/05/2019 11:06

Taking time to sit down with a cup of tea and a few biscuits to reflect on things gives my brain a manual reset and helps me to think more clearly for the rest of the day

tallandlong · 15/05/2019 11:06

bananas, easy and quick.
