Unassuming things in the home can be a danger to small children, whether it’s food you’d eat yourself without concern, a small step from one room to another or a box of laundry detergent in the cupboard. Fairy Non Bio would like to hear about the necessary but inconvenient things you do to keep your home safe for your children.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “Keeping your home safe from your little explorers can be time consuming, but because of all the chemicals in laundry detergent we want to ensure only mums & dads can access them. With our new Pods Child-Lock pack this can give you extra peace of mind, close with a ‘Click' and store up high behind a closed cupboard.”

Do you have stair gates in every doorway that you curse every time you simply want to carry a cup of tea AND a snack to the sofa? Perhaps you use foam padding on your table corners that your child pulls off thinking it’s a game or have cupboard locks that take ages to undo?

All who post the necessary inconvenient things they do to keep their home safe for their children below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Corner protectors - they fall off every 2 minutes and drive me mad but essential to prevent bumped noggins

LeeR1985 · 17/04/2019 10:51

When my daughter was younger, we had clips on the inside of ALL cupboards and I hated them so much. They were massively inconvenient for me but were beneficial for keeping her safe. One day I lost my rag and just yanked the cupboard open and snapped one Grin

the stairs gates are th only thing that i feel is inconvient im constantlybanging into it but better me than the kids being able to fall down the stairs!

MrsRix32 · 17/04/2019 12:00

Stair gates, locks on all the cupboards and the electric plug covers that are so tight I struggle to get them off. May be inconvenient at times, but 100% worth it.

sallyhartley · 17/04/2019 12:23

Putting things like laundry and cleaning products up high out of reach. And STAIRGATES are a must

WhiteKnuckleRide · 17/04/2019 12:24

Remembering to put my straighteners away straight after using them, my younger brother stood on mine whilst they were still hot when he was little and ended up in hospital with a V shaped blister on the bottom of his foot Sad. I wont risk it happening again with DS!

compy99 · 17/04/2019 12:46

Nothing that I would call inconvenient, the safety gates were awkward but necessary.

zeezee33 · 17/04/2019 12:54

Stair gates are the absolute worst. I've given up opening and closing them when I use them and just climb over the top. Also making sure cleaning products and medicines are out of reach and finding new high up places to put them

Lindseymorris29 · 17/04/2019 13:19

Locking the front door, so as they can not go outside. Stair gates and electric socket pluggers.

happysouls · 17/04/2019 13:27

Cupboard locks, door locks, window locks, nothing on low shelving or within reach that can be grabbed and pulled down. Safety gates and protectors on sharp corners of tables etc. Supervision and learning from your mistakes as your child will always outsmart you!

Emmax12 · 17/04/2019 13:51

Stairgates, cupboard locks, not having tables to bump into. Happily do it again though to keep my daughter safe.

sm2012 · 17/04/2019 13:52

I only really have stair gates as that way I can contain them in one place! Although repetitive I think it's better to teach them about safety rather than prevent them from finding out about things - not including keeping medicines, cleaning stuff etc out of their reach of course.

gd2011 · 17/04/2019 14:00

Stair gates, cupboard locks, childproof medicine bottle caps.

phillie1 · 17/04/2019 14:07

Stair gates

addverbaan · 17/04/2019 14:07

When my son was younger, we child proofed all the cubpoads and drawers. The only problem being they worked too well and I often struggled to open them lol

IonaAilidh11 · 17/04/2019 14:25

stair gates, someone needs to invent an easier solution

shellywkd · 17/04/2019 14:25

We have child locks on the washing machine, tumble dryer etc. It may take longer to open everything but well worth it.

iloveadsxx1 · 17/04/2019 14:38

We used to have stair gates and safety locks on the cupboards,

Now our children are older (And hopefully a little wiser!) We store chemicals away, and put knives out of reach.

sophiefx · 17/04/2019 15:22

Stair gates on most of our rooms, plug socket covers as well. The covers are a nightmare to get out but without them, my toddler could be in a lot of trouble!

emmmaaa26 · 17/04/2019 15:26

We have a few cameras around the house so that I can check in on them to make sure there ok. Also I turn plug sockets off all the time.

glennamy · 17/04/2019 15:48

All chemicals are away from reach in a locked cupboard, plug covers, also we have some warning/danger stickers on certain items to keep them away from.

bryonywilson91 · 17/04/2019 15:56

Plug covers! They drive me mad especially when they're so difficult to remove

disdream84 · 17/04/2019 16:48

Stair Gates and cupboard locks can be inconvenient, especially when trying to open them one-handed with a baby in your arms! They are essential though and I'd much rather this than risk injury or harm to the kids!

footdust · 17/04/2019 17:01

Cutting grapes and cherry tomatoes - life is too short

kathward · 17/04/2019 17:13

Stair gates are necessary. All.sockets must have safety plugs. dangerous detergents and cleaning things in high cupboards. Do not leave table cloths dangling as they can be pulled with
cups of tea tea etc a real danger of scalding
