Unassuming things in the home can be a danger to small children, whether it’s food you’d eat yourself without concern, a small step from one room to another or a box of laundry detergent in the cupboard. Fairy Non Bio would like to hear about the necessary but inconvenient things you do to keep your home safe for your children.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “Keeping your home safe from your little explorers can be time consuming, but because of all the chemicals in laundry detergent we want to ensure only mums & dads can access them. With our new Pods Child-Lock pack this can give you extra peace of mind, close with a ‘Click' and store up high behind a closed cupboard.”

Do you have stair gates in every doorway that you curse every time you simply want to carry a cup of tea AND a snack to the sofa? Perhaps you use foam padding on your table corners that your child pulls off thinking it’s a game or have cupboard locks that take ages to undo?

All who post the necessary inconvenient things they do to keep their home safe for their children below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Toddler dd once ate a piece of used chewing gum thrown into our tiny yard while I was messing with the pram/locking the door/wishing I had Inspector Gadget's extendable arms. I only noticed when I picked her up & wondered why her breath smelt "minty".

Children of cousins of ours also worked out how to undo the "childproof" cupboards. Older one then also went on to show the younger one how to do it. :)

Some things you can't plan for or control & the things that happen usually aren't things you had ever thought of....

In the end I dedicated 1 cupboard in the kitchen that dd could rummage around in with various bits of toys & other tat she could access herself - particularly when I was cooking. She had lots of fun "making porridge" with random bits, playing with ice & making marks. All the other cupboards were for adults & contained much more boring stuff.

I actually didn't child proof anything in my house, I kept an eye on my children at all times and put them in their cot or playpen if I needed to go to the toilet/be out of their sight.

Turn the internet router off! (Mine are older!)

We were lucky in that DS never really seemed to explore places like the cleaning cupboard. That was so boring compared to the one full of tupperware Grin.

The only thing we really did was put corner covers on the glass dining table - they are still on there but they don’t stop me bruising my thighs by walking into it every sodding day.
