We all have memories etched on our minds of the happy times we spent as children - before we grew up and had to start adulting. Summer days filled with light, joy and carefree fun. Maybe for you it was long afternoons playing in the back street, and the sound of the ice cream van, or perhaps it was a visit to the seaside where you spent happy hours building a sandcastle or discovering crabs in rock pools. It's these kind of memories that make childhood special, and perhaps now that you're a parent you're planning to re-create them for your own family. If so, Kinder Ice Cream would like you to share your memories and inspire others.

Here’s what Kinder Ice Cream have to say: "KINDER is now entering the world of ice cream, bringing to KINDER fans the care-free, summer feeling that ice cream stirs up, together with three tasty treats, for families to choose from – the delicious KINDER Ice Cream Stick, the convenient KINDER Ice Cream Sandwich and the iconic KINDER Joy Ice Cream."

What are the memories that stick in your mind and have a special meaning? What are the things your parents did that you'd like to do with your children? Maybe you built a kite with your mum and then took it to the park and watched it soar! Perhaps you remember your first trip to the cinema and the smell of popcorn and ice cream? Did you build a fort out of cardboard boxes in the garden with your dad and then take great pleasure in smashing it to bits?

If you have a favourite summer memory you'd like to re-create for your children, share it on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Going to the Barbican and having fish and chips from captain jaspers
Walking up the moors and finding a stream to play in
My Nan taking us and our cousins to the outdoor swimming pool and buying us sparkle ice lollies.

Paddling pool in the garden, camping, picnics by the lake playing outside all day

Having picnics on the beach and then a walk along the seafront playing I-Spy, so simple yet always looked forward to.

Lots of lovely caravan holidays.

Making a tree house at my grandads farm & taking chocolate digestive biscuits up there putting the world to rights with my friend

Crab fishing at the local marina,I introduced my eldest last summer and he had a ball. Think it was one of the cheapest days out we have had, and he can't wait to do it again this year.

Having fun with friends and not having a care in the world l

Blackberry picking, following the sculpture trail in the woods and making up stories about fairies.

Strawberry picking is fun watching them find a cluster of lovely red strawberries under a leaf. Have to check the tub before paying as some not so good berries find their way in there.

Getting up really early, making a big packed lunch and spending the day fishing with my dad up and down the local river was brilliant. Hopefully can do the same with my lad.

Having just spent a few days at the seaside in Wales where we went every year when I was a child I could happily recreate that forever and it hasn't changed much! Sitting on the beach in the sun, and on hot summer days paddling and playing in dingys! Poking around in rock pools with a net and studying our new pets in the bucket before letting them loose again in the sea. Fantastic!

Kids these days don't tend to play out or get creative with their play the way we used to have to do before technology ruled our world & lives. My sister & I used to love being packed off to our Great Auntie & Uncle's down south for the summer holidays. They lived backing onto farmland & woodland & we had great times building a secret den in the woods, going apple scrumping & picking wild blackberries then helping our Auntie make blackberry & apple pies. Now I'm the one who lives backing onto farmland & woodland so I'd love to recreate our childhood & do the same for my great niece. There is so much amazing wildlife in the woods, I have a family of badgers visit every night & Olivia loves animals as much as me. She is very creative anyway & loves to be outdoors thankfully.

Fishing for tiddlers with a basic net on a pole

AR2012 · 01/04/2019 08:35

Going camping in the lake district. Once they're old enough i'll make the arrangements.

Going to the seaside: we used to go for 10 days every year and stay in a hotel or guest house, it wasn't always hot and sunny but we always visited lots of places and it felt like a real treat to get up for a breakfast each morning where you could choose what you wanted to eat :-)

SouthWestmom · 01/04/2019 09:10

We used to go to Scotland in the summer and have a barbecue (one of those tiny things that did one sausage at a time) while at Loch Ness and paddle around in the water pretending to see the monster.

My favourite memories are of holidays in France. Of course we recreated the best moments for our DC that we could, but we had one favourite restaurant in Cadouin where one ate all afternoon, with courses every thirty minutes or so. There was plenty of food and unlimited wine, but that restaurant is, for very sad reasons, no more ...

A simple bucket and spade holiday, with donkeys, ice-creams, mugs of tea on the beach. But minus the sand in places you don't want it.

janeyf1 · 01/04/2019 09:23

It would be going for picnics, playing family ball games and going for woodland walks in the New Forest

hiddenmichelle · 01/04/2019 09:36

Playing in the sprinkler in the back garden and making "perfume" in a bucket from flower petals!

Blainalass · 01/04/2019 09:37

All the joy of the seaside, when the cold sea didn't put me off, candy floss was the food of the gods and sand castles were going to last forever.

maryandbuzz1 · 01/04/2019 09:38

Going out blackberry picking was a whole family event and full of memories. Then returning home and my mum turning them into the most delicious apple and blackberry crumble.

sammylea80 · 01/04/2019 09:49

My friends and I spent hours building a tree house as kids, we scrounged the wood and borrowed the tools. It was amazing, we had so much fun in our den when it was built (I'm not sure the health and safety police would approve though) :)

Cashy17 · 01/04/2019 09:53

I always remember going strawberry picking with my nan, they were the best strawberries ever and even better with ice cream. We are now growing our own strawberries to pick at home.
