We all have memories etched on our minds of the happy times we spent as children - before we grew up and had to start adulting. Summer days filled with light, joy and carefree fun. Maybe for you it was long afternoons playing in the back street, and the sound of the ice cream van, or perhaps it was a visit to the seaside where you spent happy hours building a sandcastle or discovering crabs in rock pools. It's these kind of memories that make childhood special, and perhaps now that you're a parent you're planning to re-create them for your own family. If so, Kinder Ice Cream would like you to share your memories and inspire others.

Here’s what Kinder Ice Cream have to say: "KINDER is now entering the world of ice cream, bringing to KINDER fans the care-free, summer feeling that ice cream stirs up, together with three tasty treats, for families to choose from – the delicious KINDER Ice Cream Stick, the convenient KINDER Ice Cream Sandwich and the iconic KINDER Joy Ice Cream."

What are the memories that stick in your mind and have a special meaning? What are the things your parents did that you'd like to do with your children? Maybe you built a kite with your mum and then took it to the park and watched it soar! Perhaps you remember your first trip to the cinema and the smell of popcorn and ice cream? Did you build a fort out of cardboard boxes in the garden with your dad and then take great pleasure in smashing it to bits?

If you have a favourite summer memory you'd like to re-create for your children, share it on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

My best memories of the surprise weekends where we would get home from school, mum and dad had packed the car and we went off for 2 nights of camping adventure. always to a different place. Always had a bonfire and cooked potatoes in the ashes, dad took his guitar and mum packed a drum, and a story book for us to read out around the fire.

I loved going to pick your own farms to pick strawberries in the summer. Can’t wait to take my own kids this year for the first time.

Prancing around a campsite in the south of France...and going to the bakery each morning for freshly baked croissants!

The freedom of summers: exploring the woods; staying up late watching rented VHS; camping outside with your best friend; taking a picnic and seeing where the day takes you.

Flapdoodles · 24/03/2019 09:31

Long Summer days exploring in the woods, picnics on days out and Summer holidays in Devon where we would spend all day on the beach, building sandcastles and trying to catch fish in the rock pools. Summer is also about lots and lots of ice cream!

I used to go to the library and take out a book or two, stick them in a rucksack with a little picnic and some squash then jump on my bike and find a little spot in the woods to sit and read the books. I'd love to be able to do this now!

Spending all day every day with friends as a young teenager. Mostly roller skating. Along the seafront, at the playground.
Walks along the beach or in the park. Just hanging out. A taste of freedom that you don’t have as an adult.

Exploring the forest with my brother, clambering up on the rocks, eating wild berries, trying (and failing) to make fires by rubbing sticks together, going fishing (with mum too) and then cooking the fresh fish over a fire - nothing ever tasted so good!

Playing in the hay barn on the family farm in Ireland

Summer holidays in a caravan park in Sheringham, days spent crab fishing at Blakeney, having scones in a tearoom in Holt, wandering e beach and making castles at Hunstanton. Then barbeques at the caravan and evenings at the clubhouse singing agadoo and doing costume competitions and Bingo.

Lying on a really comfy leather deck chair - great until you moved and scalded your legs on the burning leather! 🤣 Gotta love the 80s!
