We all have memories etched on our minds of the happy times we spent as children - before we grew up and had to start adulting. Summer days filled with light, joy and carefree fun. Maybe for you it was long afternoons playing in the back street, and the sound of the ice cream van, or perhaps it was a visit to the seaside where you spent happy hours building a sandcastle or discovering crabs in rock pools. It's these kind of memories that make childhood special, and perhaps now that you're a parent you're planning to re-create them for your own family. If so, Kinder Ice Cream would like you to share your memories and inspire others.

Here’s what Kinder Ice Cream have to say: "KINDER is now entering the world of ice cream, bringing to KINDER fans the care-free, summer feeling that ice cream stirs up, together with three tasty treats, for families to choose from – the delicious KINDER Ice Cream Stick, the convenient KINDER Ice Cream Sandwich and the iconic KINDER Joy Ice Cream."

What are the memories that stick in your mind and have a special meaning? What are the things your parents did that you'd like to do with your children? Maybe you built a kite with your mum and then took it to the park and watched it soar! Perhaps you remember your first trip to the cinema and the smell of popcorn and ice cream? Did you build a fort out of cardboard boxes in the garden with your dad and then take great pleasure in smashing it to bits?

If you have a favourite summer memory you'd like to re-create for your children, share it on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

I have fond childhood memories of rock pooling in Cornwall with my dad and brother. I'm hoping to take DD soon. I'm sure she'll enjoy it as much as I did.

I would play outside with all my friends from morning till teatime, there were so many open spaces, fields and parks to play in we were never board, it it was raining everyone would come round to mine and we would make a camp in the veranda. I'd love for my kids to have those carefree fun days, but unfortunately nowadays its best not to let your kids out of your site

Summer days that seemed to last forever, we spent all day outside, organising sports events depending on what was on tv, Wimbledon, Olympics. Picking berries, caravan holidays..... great memories.

helping my dad with the garden patch, he used to grow a lot, I was under 5 so can only remember potato, strawberries and garden peas. I loved garden peas, so not many would get up in my basket, I loved eating them.

I went to a lovely barn dance in Kent, the barn was straight out of a picture book and in between dancing we sat on bales of hay. It was a warm summer's evening and such fun!

One of my favourite summer memories is going on bike rides with my Mum and sister. We used to live close to the countryside & the roads were safe then, with fewer cars. I think where I live now, we'd have to find some specific cycle routes but I'm in the process of finding a suitable bike seat for my son so we can go out together.

We used to go on a bus trip to the beach with the local social club, my mam and dad were memebers, we got sweets on the bus and 50p, everyone knew everyone and we all pitched up close on the sand and built sandcastles, plodged, went to the fairground after and rented a boat on the lake eating ice creams whilst dad was rowing, It was a magical time, where the whole extended family spent quality time together,

I have really fond memories of summer holidays in Wales with my family, time spent on beautiful beaches and wading in rivers, I'd love for my girls to experience that seem feeling.

Losing our socks to our labrador on the beach in Cornwall, he would steal them and then drop them in the sea!

JayJay1874 · 09/04/2019 23:31

picnics in the garden and hours in the paddling pool.

emmagough78 · 10/04/2019 01:09

one Summer memory that springs to mind was: making our back yard fun! - My mum helped us build an obstable cause a few times and then used to leave us to our own devices - I think I remember most of it - starting off with the step ladder, we had to climb through to the other side, jump into hula hoop and spin it around our waste, balance along the broom stick (this was very tricky lol) crawl under a sleeping bag, jump in the paddling pool and grab a ball, throw it over the washing line, swing backwards and fowards on the swing and jump off mid air (we made that little trick up ourselves he he) and then run back to the start. I've started doing a similar thing with our 3 year old, althoug she's a bit young for the dare devil antics we got up to!

Camping in the summer holidays where we went crabbing, shrimping in the rock pools and generally doing oudoorsy things that cost nothing but we had so much fun.
