Whether Christmas Eve in your household is the calm before the storm or the storm before the calm, it can be a great day to just spend some quality time with family and/or friends. Christmas Eve is celebrated in a whole host of different ways, with traditions varying from going for a long walk, to having chinese takeaway for dinner, to even guessing what the presents around the tree are. With that being said McDonalds would love to hear what you and your household gets up to on Christmas Eve.

Here’s what McDonald's has to say: "“We know it’s a hectic time of year for families, so if it’s a quick coffee when you’re out shopping or popping in on Christmas Eve for some free Reindeer Treat carrots, we are here to help you get #ReindeerReady on your way to Christmas 2018!”

Is Christmas Eve a time where you stay in your Xmas pj’s all day and watch films? Perhaps you like to go to you the pub with friends and family? What about going for a winter walk around your local park? Are you still prepping the presents and dinner for Christmas day? Do you and your family host an annual Christmas Eve party? Or maybe you have a traditional Christmas Eve breakfast, lunch and dinner that you look forward to all year round?

Whatever you and your family gets up to on Christmas Eve share it on the thread below and everyone who does will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Bake! Then watch a Christmas film

jacknjessica · 26/11/2018 20:09

A family night in watching a Christmas film

sarah861421 · 26/11/2018 20:10

when my children were little, we would do some baking, then a crib service and a special story

GherkinsOnToast · 26/11/2018 20:17

it's my birthday so we head out somewhere for breakfast then usually have a visit to Father Christmas booked for late in the afternoon. We have a middle of the winter BBQ in the evening regardless of weather. then stocking hung, mince pie and carrot put out, kids to bed and spend the rest of the night wrapping before church at midnight.

alsproject · 26/11/2018 20:29

We get a takeaway and relax

OnlyToWin · 26/11/2018 20:32

Cosy day with a bit of tidying up and a bit of mince pie baking ready for Santa. They know I eat them now but we still do it!! We do church on the afternoon, visit family in the early evening then back home for a Christmas film in front of the fire. It’s the best day of the whole season.

EvaHarknessRose · 26/11/2018 20:34

My Mum invites us over to her flat for early evening drinks and snacks and then starts making 'well, that was nice' noises when she has had enough of us. It's nice, festive, cosy. She even gets a flickering fire picture up on the Sky TV sometimes.

I prep everything for Christmas dinner and get all presents sorted :)

AnimalAddict · 26/11/2018 21:00

A Christmas movie and some tasty snacks :)

emiliejw · 26/11/2018 21:15

Visit the in-laws, drink lots of wine and eat plenty of cheese and party food, watch the Muppets Christmas Carol and have a last-minute tidy-up and finish off the last bits of wrapping.

Sugarhouse · 26/11/2018 21:26

Mostly delivering presents and prepping Xmas lunch but looking forward to starting some traditions as my little one gets bigger

Orangelover · 26/11/2018 21:27

I'm a nurse and usually work Christmas and sometimes Christmas Eve. Always feel sorry for patients in hospital on Christmas Eve. Some really hoping to be home for Christmas, we always try so hard to get them out for Christmas Day.

This year I'm working Christmas Day but off Christmas Eve. I'll be loading my car like Santa's sleigh and dropping presents off to my family Smile Then maybe pub in the evening WineGin

IKnowWhenThatHotlineBling · 26/11/2018 21:37

We love to have a relaxed christmas eve where everything is done (hopefully) and we can just enjoy the christmassy tv and watch some traditional movies. xx

RACHELSMITH45 · 26/11/2018 21:38

We like to go to the local Christingle service and sometimes enjoy a Chinese take away with the family.

buckley1983 · 26/11/2018 21:45

I love Christmas Eve! In recent years.. it has been spent driving to Wales from Leicester in order to spend time with family which is LOVELY - but this year, we're having Christmas at home!! We get to enjoy our very own Christmas, with our own traditions & at our own pace :)
Our LO is 5 now & exciting about Christmas already! We're planning a long winter walk during the day, a relaxed buffet tea at home then into PJs & snuggling on the sofa to watch The Snowman, enjoy a Christmas book in bed with LO & then make sure everything is spick & span ready for Christmas Day before throwing myself on the sofa with OH & scoffing a tin of Quality Street between us :)

vixxx666 · 26/11/2018 21:49

We go for a walk or to the beach if the weather is dry. Then we come home and have showers and put on new christmas pjs. Then we order a chinese takeaway and put on a christmas film.

towser44 · 26/11/2018 21:49

We always brave the food shopping! Eeek!

RiSo · 26/11/2018 21:50

We normally have a treat tea (pizza or chinese), then get into new pyjamas ready for Santa. A family film then early to bed for the kids so that once they are asleep we can get out all of the presents and try and get a little bit of sleep ourselves!

DenCop1 · 26/11/2018 22:09

Christmas Eve is so exciting. We shop and visit Santa in the morning, then the afternoon is movie time. Early evening is the family church service with all the carols.
Before home and hot chocolate, a Santa film, An equally Santa story book, then it's stockings up and snacks out before giggling, excited kids head to bed and we wait for hours for them to finally go to sleep before getting to bed ourselves for a few short hours sleep lol, and I wish these years would last forever

APJ1 · 26/11/2018 22:16

Usually it's just another evening at home, maybe watching a festive comedy or two if they're on the TV. Sometimes we go to the local pub for a few hours, for a last-minute extra shot of festive cheer.

giddyypixie · 26/11/2018 22:19

We tend to have a relaxed family night in, watching movies and eating snacky food...the calm before the storm the next day!

Ruralretreating · 26/11/2018 22:32

We do something outdoors, usually a National Trust place, sometimes with friends. In the afternoon we might finish decorating the Christmas cake, then attend the local Crib Service, after which we have dinner (always with Champagne for the grown ups). Christmas Carols are on all day long! Children put on their Christmas pyjamas, hang their stockings, put mince pies and carrots out with a tot of Whisky too. I love it!

iLoveFoood · 26/11/2018 22:40

We wake up, pack a bag for mums house, put on our newly bought Christmas Eve outfit, go into the city for a drink and maybe a sandwich or lunch , then up to the big family home where mum is prepping everything and listening to Christmas music, pour a glass of wine and eat chocolate covered marshmallows! Spend the day chillin around the house then the evening is full of finishing wrapping, spending quality time with family members, laughing, eating turkey/ham cranberry paninis then cheese and crackers later on for a snack when everyone's a little tipsy.
I cannot wait :)

FelixTitling · 26/11/2018 22:59

We go to Christingle then come home for some non-fancy food - something like sandwiches and soup - wrap the last of the presents then watch a Christmassy film before leaving mince pies and carrots out for Santa and the reindeers. Kids are teens now, but still like to do it.

Prior to all that, I spend the day cleaning the house and prepping the veg for xmas day while dh takes the kids out for my presents last minute xmas shopping.
