This activity is now closed

If you have experienced a urinary tract infection (UTI) then you’ll know how uncomfortable and painful they can be. There can be quite a few different causes of UTIs, as well as ways to treat and/or prevent them, which is why Ocean Spray would love you to share your methods for treating or preventing them.

Here’s what Ocean Spray have to say: “One in every two women will suffer from a UTI at some point in their lifetime. Many GPs and other health professionals advise women (as well as men) to drink cranberry juice for UTI resistance. Independent research has found drinking a glass of cranberry juice every day could help reduce the likelihood of a UTI by 40 percent, potentially cutting down on antibiotics use in the process. Which is good news particularly when experts claim antibiotic resistance is on track to kill more people than cancer.

Ocean Spray’s research into the health benefits of cranberries and cranberry juice is ongoing. And it’s always good to hear from people about their own experiences of drinking cranberry juice for health – and of course taste – reasons.”

Do you use a hot water bottle to comfort the stomach or back pain you may get? Perhaps you try to always wear breathable clothing around your lady parts to try prevent a UTI from occuring? Maybe you swear by the home remedy of drinking lots of cranberry juice? Or have you found the perfect no-perfume body wash that helps keep everything balanced?

Whatever your tips and methods are, share them on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

It's been a really long time since I've had a UTI, as in years and years so my prevention techniques must be pretty good. They are:

not wearing thongs because of the bacteria going from bum to bits.

Using only water to wash down there

Not using shaving foam for shaving pubic hair as it can easily get inside the vulva

Wearing cotton underwear

Not wearing anything too restrictive on the crotch (zero cameltoe action)

Washing sex toys before & after use

Wiping from front to back

Wearing no pants to bed every night to let your bits 'air'

Using non-bio to wash underwear

Making sure to consistently drink enough so my urine is straw coloured or lighter as I think dehydration can cause UTIs.

And to ease a UTI:

Warm bath & just letting our little wees as needed. Gross but much less painful & stingy when the wee comes out.

Inserting a tampon that's been dipped in natural yoghurt

Drinking proactive drinks to up the healthy bacteria

Plenty of fluids & those cranberry sachets. Apparently this is placebo but it always soothed it for me.

Lots of water or cranberry juice and wear cotton underwear.

glitterbiscuits · 24/08/2018 06:49

Cranberry products have sadly done nothing to help my bladder. I wish it did.
I have had too many UTIs to count.
I don't think Ocean Spray are getting much positive market research here.

Plenty of water and a little exercise

barbsbarbs · 24/08/2018 06:54

Emilygage1982 · 24/08/2018 07:21

Lots of water and use a feminine body wash

hmariez · 24/08/2018 07:21

Stay hydrated, drink mainly water and limit caffeine

maryandbuzz1 · 24/08/2018 07:26

I have always found that loose clothing and cotton pants help.
Drinking plenty of water and staying well hydrated is essential .......this has taken me a while to realise but I believe has helped

chloe282 · 24/08/2018 07:53

Drinking plenty of water to help you urinate, which will help to flush the UTI away. Probiotics are great for a healthy digestion and can help to treat the bad bacteria causing the UTI. I also think it's important to take plenty of vitamins!

vonniebab2 · 24/08/2018 08:31

Drinking lots of water always helps I only leave it a couple of days before I make an appointment at the Doctors otherwise it can turn really nasty!

Yaracuy · 24/08/2018 08:40

Drinking barley water: boil the barley and drink that water before breakfast for sure and during the day.

hdh747 · 24/08/2018 08:44

Lots of water and cranberry juice always worked for me.

AR2012 · 24/08/2018 08:44

My other half swears by cranberry juice and water. Just helps to flush the system out.

Spices001 · 24/08/2018 08:46

Lots of water & cranberry juice!

Lindseymorris29 · 24/08/2018 08:46

Lots of water, cranberry pills and the bicarb pouches. nothing worse!

mollymoo818 · 24/08/2018 08:47

I hardly ever get them but in the past when I have I have made sure to drink lots of water and cranberry juice which has always helped clear them up. For the pain I don't think you can beat a hot water bottle as it not only helps with pain but it is so soothing which automatically just makes you feel better.

sheilads105 · 24/08/2018 08:54

I drink gallons of water - that really helps to wash out my system!

happysouls · 24/08/2018 08:57

I suffered lots in the past and it was antibiotics that sorted it out. Drinking water and avoiding some of the triggers helps. Good hygiene, cotton undies and loose fitting clothing. Good excuse for PJs in the evenings!

bevmichelle47 · 24/08/2018 08:58

I would have to say i've drank loads of water when having UTI and loaded up on Vitamin C

renas · 24/08/2018 08:59

Drink plenty of water and urinate frequently

Elizasmum02 · 24/08/2018 08:59

Drinking loads and loads of water! dont be ashamed to go to your gp for sdvice

ashde · 24/08/2018 09:04

A warm shower, hot water bottle and relaxing with some music to help distract the discomfort helped me.

socat · 24/08/2018 09:09

Cranberry Juice works wonders.

stacey2kids · 24/08/2018 09:20

As a parent it's hard to stop... Being on the go all the time and not giving yourself time... If you feel like you have a uti try and give yourself some time... Lots of water
Cranberry juice is always good
Don't go swimming or have sex
Not like we want too when we're too tired anyways 😂
Relax and be near a toilet holding it in is painful too x
If it gets worse call the doctor but it's mostly about drinking fluid (not alcohol 😂 xxx I used to suffer with then but I drink alot of water now and don't get them as much
