This activity is now closed

If you have experienced a urinary tract infection (UTI) then you’ll know how uncomfortable and painful they can be. There can be quite a few different causes of UTIs, as well as ways to treat and/or prevent them, which is why Ocean Spray would love you to share your methods for treating or preventing them.

Here’s what Ocean Spray have to say: “One in every two women will suffer from a UTI at some point in their lifetime. Many GPs and other health professionals advise women (as well as men) to drink cranberry juice for UTI resistance. Independent research has found drinking a glass of cranberry juice every day could help reduce the likelihood of a UTI by 40 percent, potentially cutting down on antibiotics use in the process. Which is good news particularly when experts claim antibiotic resistance is on track to kill more people than cancer.

Ocean Spray’s research into the health benefits of cranberries and cranberry juice is ongoing. And it’s always good to hear from people about their own experiences of drinking cranberry juice for health – and of course taste – reasons.”

Do you use a hot water bottle to comfort the stomach or back pain you may get? Perhaps you try to always wear breathable clothing around your lady parts to try prevent a UTI from occuring? Maybe you swear by the home remedy of drinking lots of cranberry juice? Or have you found the perfect no-perfume body wash that helps keep everything balanced?

Whatever your tips and methods are, share them on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

Drink apple cider vinegar in water. It really helps.
I learned this from my vet when my little dog had a UTI and I now use this tip on myself when I contract a UTI and it really works.

Drink lots of water (as much a possible without making yourself sick) and wear loose fitting underwear to keep it cool down there.

HelenPlant · 03/09/2018 22:53

Wear big, cotton pants and drink loads of water. Nasty things, UTIs!

slbhill42 · 03/09/2018 22:57

Doodygirl2009 · 04/09/2018 10:10

Drink lots of water and water with a slice of lemon in is best

tpwigwam · 04/09/2018 12:59

Cranberry juice definitely helps prevent UTIs - and you should drink a couple of glasses a day if you are prone to infection. Another preventative action is to ensure you go to the toilet as soon as you need it. Once you have a UTI, you should see your GP for antibiotics to ensure you treat the infection straight away.

myboycraig · 04/09/2018 22:47

Cranberry juice to flush and if stingy quarter teaspoon of baking soda in water.

babyloi · 04/09/2018 22:49

I try EVERYTHING before I resort to the Doctors and anti biotics. Firstly I try to flush it through by drinking plenty of water and avoiding acidic food. I avoid intercourse at the risk of making the situation worse and always ensure you empty your bladder FULLY each time you pass urine.

If things aren't resolving after a few days then I call a GP.

plusonefail · 07/09/2018 20:46

I used to get these regularly on my 20s and they were really painful for me. I once passed out from the pain. Lots of water and sitting in a warm bath with bicarb in it seemed to help.

Sugarhouse · 10/09/2018 11:54

Drink a lot of water to ease the pain and get to the doctors
