If you have experienced a urinary tract infection (UTI) then you’ll know how uncomfortable and painful they can be. There can be quite a few different causes of UTIs, as well as ways to treat and/or prevent them, which is why Ocean Spray would love you to share your methods for treating or preventing them.

Here’s what Ocean Spray have to say: “One in every two women will suffer from a UTI at some point in their lifetime. Many GPs and other health professionals advise women (as well as men) to drink cranberry juice for UTI resistance. Independent research has found drinking a glass of cranberry juice every day could help reduce the likelihood of a UTI by 40 percent, potentially cutting down on antibiotics use in the process. Which is good news particularly when experts claim antibiotic resistance is on track to kill more people than cancer.

Ocean Spray’s research into the health benefits of cranberries and cranberry juice is ongoing. And it’s always good to hear from people about their own experiences of drinking cranberry juice for health – and of course taste – reasons.”

Do you use a hot water bottle to comfort the stomach or back pain you may get? Perhaps you try to always wear breathable clothing around your lady parts to try prevent a UTI from occuring? Maybe you swear by the home remedy of drinking lots of cranberry juice? Or have you found the perfect no-perfume body wash that helps keep everything balanced?

Whatever your tips and methods are, share them on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

APJ1 · 24/08/2018 19:25

Drinking lots of water is very important.

dadshere · 24/08/2018 19:47

Only ever wear cotton downstairs and use a gentle shower gel.

pennwood · 24/08/2018 19:54

Drink cranberry juice regularly to help prevent infection but not during. Cotton undies, & daily washing but not using any scented products. Ensure both partners have washed prior to engaging in sex, & empty bladder fully after sex. Seeing the doctor is crucial if having a high temperature as it can be a serious health issue if not treated immediately. Do not become dehydrated, but do not drink too much either.

See a GP!

Rachdayan · 24/08/2018 20:25

Flush your system out with water, reduce salt intake, cotton underwear is a must.

liz1970 · 24/08/2018 20:57

mave · 24/08/2018 21:01

Drink plenty of water and cranberry juice!

freefan · 24/08/2018 22:12

Swear by Cranberry Juice and lots of water and well if no improvement I go to the chemist to ask advice and then if no improvement or it feels worse with a temperature I go to Drs.

JW1226 · 24/08/2018 22:19

Drinking enough water, also I have boiled water with sliced lemons in daily and haven't had a UTI since doing it.

jatsmith · 24/08/2018 22:37

Only thing that's ever worked for me is antibiotics.

pfcpompeysarah · 24/08/2018 22:52

Water, water and more water, and keep an eye on any worsening of your condition in case it starts to affect your kidneys, then its time to go back to the GP.

OnlyToWin · 24/08/2018 23:00

I tend to self treat water infections as much as I can. I increase my water intake and drink cranberry juice and keep an eye on symptoms. If I got a high temp I would visit the nurse, but I have generally managed to rid myself of water infections on my own by doing the above.

Go to the doctors. Wear comfortable clothing

chris8888 · 24/08/2018 23:57

I find I am more prone to them if I wear panty liners so have stopped using them. If it isn`t too bad then drinking more helps but if its really painful antibiotics from the doctor are needed.

KittyKat88 · 25/08/2018 00:07

Drink water, water and more water! If it is very painful then a quick visit to the chemist for a treatment to make it more manageable. I also make sure that I always go to the loo after sex to make sure any risk of infection leading to a UTI is reduced. Good vaginal hygene is a must too!

mandes1 · 25/08/2018 00:26

Drink lots of water and have a wash with diluted apple cider vinegar.

wonderstuff16 · 25/08/2018 08:47

Water and cranberry juice

sarah861421 · 25/08/2018 09:26

I get them quite rarely but I had one a few years ago and ended being taken into hospital because I didnt realisw what it was and didnt treat it

KentUnicorn · 25/08/2018 10:29

Drink plenty of fluids, cranberry juice is supposed to help. Don't ignore the symptoms

Glitzy07 · 25/08/2018 11:45

The only thing that works for me and ivetried everything are Holland and Barrett cranberry capsules. Nothing else works. Other brands don't work. I've tried powdered sachets, water, cranberry juice, urvi ursi etc and these I have to have as essentials in the cupboard. As soon Xmas you feel a slight sting take it straight away don't wait til it gets worse, this way it won't get worse and itll go. Trust me they work and are a life saviour ! Only about 3-4 a pot

deano777 · 25/08/2018 12:03

Drink plenty of water, Cranberry juice and don't hold it even though it hurts wee when you need to.

twinklenic · 25/08/2018 14:32

drink lots of fluids , try barley water too that always seems to help, lots of rest and take pain killers if required

Lheath · 25/08/2018 14:37

Keep drinking plenty of water and avoid sugary food/drink

tolerable · 25/08/2018 15:24

i think drinking cranberry and rasberry juice.followed by water makes wee-ing possible and less traumatic. but my absolute go to is apple cider vinegar.its pretty vile so i mix it one to one with water n slam it.(daily now)..and havent suffered since.
