This activity is now closed

It’s lunchtime! So how do you make sure your children are opening their lunchboxes to something healthy? We all want to encourage our family to eat well, but with the endless packed lunches the summer holidays call for, plus the reappearance of the lunchbox police come September, now might be the time to step up your lunchbox game. Soggy sandwiches just won’t cut the mustard, so Lidl would love to know your go-to lunchbox ideas that will keep little ones happy and healthy.

Perhaps you like to keep it simple with some vegetable sticks, pitta and hummus. Or maybe you’re children just can’t get enough of your homemade falafel or energy balls. Whatever your healthy lunchbox ideas are please share them below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win £100 Lidl voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

As someone with a 9 year old who wants cheese spread butties every day there are some great suggestions on here which I'm looking forward to trying next week!

I chop up different colour salad veg and fruit & lay out a sort of rainbow on the plate to go with a ham sandwich or wrap. Also marmite rice cakes or a couple of breadsticks and mild salsa goes down well.

I do a small fruit box and veg box with hummous for my dc. They often won't bite an apple or tangerine but they'll eat fruit if it's cut up and more of a fruit salad selection.

The secret is cutting veg and fruit up.
If you just put an apple in my son won't eat it but cut a load of fruit together in bite size and he will eat healthy

Get them to take part in making up lunch! My LO helps make hummus with Daddy!

Dc are not fans of sandwiches so they have meat/fish/ diary with a mixed salad including some pasta/rice/crackers followed by fruit and yogurt

My Dd favourite sandwich is cream cheese. Sometimes with onion chutney.
Plus a selection of
Cheese cubes
Cherry tomatoes
Grapes
Orange pre-sliced
Half an apple
Always fruit juice based drink (50/50 fruit juice and water so no extras but also not as insanely sweet as pure fruit juice)
Yoghurt

Sometimes wraps with more cream cheese!

Mine loves a cheese scone or homemade mini pizza instead of sandwiches sometimes. I then add fruit, some cheese, some sort of treat (biscuit or fairy cake) and sometimes carrot or cucumber sticks.

My DC love hummous with raw veg to dip in. Also, plain crackers that they can top with cheese.

Spanish omelette cold
and sliced is nice. Veggies and dips (actually got a brilliant pot for this in lidl!). Dizzy pizza is also a fave, spreading a sheet of pastry with tomato puree and cheese, rolling into spirals, slicing and baking, the pastry is high calorie so I'd only sebd fruit and veg in to accompany it.

Wraps with soft cheese and avocado.

I always do chopped pepper or carrots, they go down well. Any fruit is chopped up - whole apples or bananas never get eaten, but berries or chopped up fruit do. They will eat apples and bananas at home but prefer them to be prepared. I also think that a boiled, peeled egg is a good cheap standby when the cupboards look a bit bare.

Hummus and pita bread / veg dippers

sickmumma · 17/09/2018 21:17

My children like mini wraps with chicken and salad, a little pot of mixed fruit - usually berries and grapes, some cheese and usually a small treat! If it's cold my eldest also loves leftover spaghetti Bologna's in his thermos flask!

My kids take soup in a little pot that keeps it warm. Full of veggies and some crusty bread to dip in.
