This activity is now closed

It’s lunchtime! So how do you make sure your children are opening their lunchboxes to something healthy? We all want to encourage our family to eat well, but with the endless packed lunches the summer holidays call for, plus the reappearance of the lunchbox police come September, now might be the time to step up your lunchbox game. Soggy sandwiches just won’t cut the mustard, so Lidl would love to know your go-to lunchbox ideas that will keep little ones happy and healthy.

Perhaps you like to keep it simple with some vegetable sticks, pitta and hummus. Or maybe you’re children just can’t get enough of your homemade falafel or energy balls. Whatever your healthy lunchbox ideas are please share them below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win £100 Lidl voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

My son likes lots of little things in individual tubs so it's like a mini buffet! Things like chunks of cheese, mini sausages, grapes, apple and crisps. I've been know to hide grated carrot in with peanut butter to sneak a bit more veg into him!

Home made bread rolls - we have a bread maker so making dough is easy. If the bread is good, lunch is good!

queenoftheschoolrun · 15/08/2018 10:40

We don't like sandwiches so have pitta bread, houmous and veg, falafel, wraps, scotch eggs, pasties, pasta salad, sausage rolls, couscous etc. instead. DH and I have homemade soup when the weather's colder.

Cous Cous with roasted vegetables

Gynlais · 15/08/2018 16:31

My children love mini quorn sausages, baby tomatoes, cucumber slices, mini babybel ,frozen yogurt and and some fresh fruit.

Fizzyxo · 15/08/2018 16:39

DS loves yoghurt, fruit and either chicken or tuna salad. I always try to incorporate a variety of fruit as a fruit salad. Some days I may add a granola bar as a treat which he loves.

I know a lot of families who have snacks at all times but I like being strict with treats as afterall it wouldn't be a 'treat' otherwise.

Teaspoon74 · 15/08/2018 18:14

halved grapes, pineapple chunks, and - the perennial favourite - sultanas. or "tanas" as we call them ;)

Carriecakes80 · 15/08/2018 18:42

I home ed my lot so they make their own lunches, we always try to make sure its balanced. Not always totally healthy, but never totally bad!
Drink is coloured iced water (drop of food colouring to water and we freeze it and then smoosh it!) well, it has been since the heatwave lol.
Their favourite lunch is pitta bread stuffed with chicken and cream cheese. We use the healthier options normally, and for snacks its either crisps or fruit!

I like my lot to eat healthy, and we cook all our meals from scratch pretty much, but they still get their treats because we can go out whenever we want and burn it off! ;-) x

Cheese and vegetable muffins are always a hit with mine.

katiemanzoori · 16/08/2018 09:12

Salmon, Salad, and jacket potato.

Headfullofdreams · 16/08/2018 13:53

My ds has a packed lunch and doesn't like sandwiches so I often give him homemade veg soup which he loves.

Voldesnort · 16/08/2018 18:35

Our standard lunchbox meals are typically Lidl Mediterranean herb wrap, spread with red pesto, grated cheese and lettuce. Or pasta salad with tuna, sweetcorn and Greek yogurt (not mayo) or Green/ Red pesto, peppers, cherry tomatoes and ham are favorites here. Wholemeal rolls with chicken, lettuce and cucumber. Snacks are often mini bags of popcorn, cereal bar and snack cheese. Always fruit juice as well and normally strawberries or raspberries. DD is primary school age.

shewhomustbeEbayed · 16/08/2018 18:40

I’ve started making my DD homemade pasta salad ( pasta, chicken or ham, sweetcorn, tomatoes and homemade spicy tomato sauce ) she has really enjoyed it in this hot weather rather than sandwiches.

Hisashiburi · 16/08/2018 20:04

Savoury baked eggs with spinach and mushroom. Great alternative snack alongside lunch which is usually couscous and chicken

ProteinIsGood · 16/08/2018 22:59

Kids love jacket potato so I tend to be creative with that and incorporate some form of protein.

I also try and include a fruit or veg salad. I think it's important eating more veg than fruit.

WowOoo · 20/08/2018 10:06

I've just done lunch sized portions of dhal. I've been emptying out my cupboards and have far too many packets of lentils. Cheap and healthy and freezable. I'll be having one or two a week for some time! With a salad too.

Ruby37 · 20/08/2018 20:02

Wraps rather than sandwiches always, to avoid sogginess! But to avoid any sogginess whatsoever, one whole meal pitta and some carrot sticks with a pot of whatever dip there is in the house. Plus a yogurt, a piece of fruit and maybe a cereal bar. Super filling and very healthy.

OfficeDictionary · 20/08/2018 21:43

Youngest hates bread but can manage a wrap with hummus, grated carrot, sliced olives and a few leaves. Always cucumber alongside, but not in, on pain of death!

mumsbe · 25/08/2018 13:24

We do chicken cucumber and tomato wraps with yoghurt mixed together kids love these. We do banana and chocolate home made muffins made with canderell sugar. Fruit and feta kebabs bread sticks go down well with a honey and yoghurt dip chop a few peaches to put in and this is a great dip. We make our own smoothie strawberry banana and coconut goes down well. And also do mixed fruit pineapple and raisins all very sweet but great for you.

maclinks · 25/08/2018 15:41

home made dips and veg are a great go to, lots of crunchy veg options. i do love the mini cucumbers peppers and bags of mange tout that lidls sells . Plus the small pots of fruit in juice.

llewejk · 26/08/2018 12:06

Mini fajitas wrap. Carrot and cucumber sticks, grapes in half and an orange (peeled). Yoghurt tube.

mollysmammy · 27/08/2018 12:02

A vegetable frittata when she's at home, we don't eat meat but we both go and choose some nice fresh veggies from the grocer and make it together. Always a nice idea to start teaching them early - who knows she might even be able to prepare something other than Ramen Noodles when she gets to college...!

GetKnitted · 28/08/2018 23:28

keeping the fruit and veg plentiful, separate and fun!

lolapops1 · 29/08/2018 19:53
