This activity has now closed

We’re very aware that energy bills are not the most exciting topic to discuss and that sorting them can be a pain, but they are a fact of life and we’d like to find out how you get on with your energy suppliers. The government has recently passed through some new legislation which will cap the total amount a supplier can charge, but do you think it will make a difference? Some of us are super organised and expert at searching for the best deals and negotiating costs each year whereas others me included overestimate our capacity to be organised enough to sort our energy bill in the least painful way.

We’re really interested in finding out how you get on with your current energy supplier and what you like and dislike about them? Is there something they particularly do that makes your life much easier? Or something you wish they’d start doing? Or even something that frustrates you about them?

Whatever your thoughts are on what makes a good energy supplier and creates a good or bad energy tariff, please share them below for your chance to be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks

I have been very impressed with Bulb energy.

Havingkittens04 · 27/07/2018 07:32

Switched supplier this year. I'm not sure if we are actually saving money, but we had a cash back deal and our prices are fixed, so we are happy. Someone comes our to read our meters in advance of the bills being sent, so we don't have to remember to submit readings, or get an estimated bill. The bills are easy to read. Glad we switched x

KAKADU2001 · 27/07/2018 07:34

They supply a commodity at a price that we can either take or leave.

RiSo · 27/07/2018 07:59

We changed suppliers about 2 weeks ago having been with our old provider for several years they put the prices up to a ridiculous tariff prompting us to shop around. Have now saved about £30 per month and awaiting a smart meter to be fitted which our old provider didn't offer so happy at the moment.

suzyq50 · 27/07/2018 07:59

I'm satisfied with Co Op. Tariffs seem fair as I go by the kwh per unit price as a guide & use my usage to compare. I'd like special offers on LED bulbs to encourage efficiency

socat · 27/07/2018 08:12

Don't particularly like them! They are hard to get in touch with, often dead links online and if email, they take longer than they say they would take to reply.
Only when I complained higher-up did I get taken seriously, otherwise I was left in the same position than when I first contacted them!
Customer service has a lot to be desired!!
Shifty, took over my previous supplier then introduced standing charges!!
Don't trust them, they all follow like sheep with price rises!!

cluckyhen · 27/07/2018 08:14

I've just moved and opted for SSE this time as I've always had a good experience with them. This time they actually emailed me as they had a wee problem with my set up and they have stayed in touch whilst everything has been set up, with one point of contact. Super!

vonniebab2 · 27/07/2018 08:21

I tend to swap suppliers every year I look for the cheapest tariffs then telephone to enquire if they can better that tariff and quite often they can!

wonderstuff16 · 27/07/2018 08:40

Like my energy supplier, have had no problems so far, switched 3 months ago.

Ganne1 · 27/07/2018 08:51

Switching energy companies is not as easy as they say, even using the various switching sites, as there's often one supplier who doesn't get the message or who is tardy in acknowledging. But, all our energy choices have been fine. The main thing is that one shouldn't realise it's there - one shouldn't have to do anything apart from submit readings and pay the bills!

Yaracuy · 27/07/2018 08:52

I've been with them for almost 20 years. So, it is difficult to compare to any other company. They do their best to keep me happy, though.
Nevertheless, I think electricity, water and gas SHOULD BE FREE ! But people don't understand that. I'm surprised the air we breath is not taxed, at least that I know of...

janeyf1 · 27/07/2018 08:58

I have recently switched but it wasn't worth the hassle. The previous supplier have continued to send bills and are refusing to send my credit allowance back. I won't use them again

AR2012 · 27/07/2018 08:59

They're okay for now got signed up to a energy club service so it'll switch when there's a better deal.

Spices001 · 27/07/2018 09:00

Recently changed supplier, but so far so good
My old supplier was ok but got too expensive

phillie1 · 27/07/2018 09:00

very easy to switch and do it most years to save money. Be better if anyone just gave everyone their cheapest offers

ladymadonna1 · 27/07/2018 09:04

We switch energy supplier every year to get the best deal. We are currently with NPower. My husband recently contacted them to get this direct debit switched over to my name and it has caused no end of problems. Simple request, you would think... Pricing is competitive but their customer service needs addressing!

happysouls · 27/07/2018 09:21

I switched recently to Bulb. It was really nice and easy and I like their clear straightforward communications. The price is good too. Before that I was with Co-op for several years. I found their billing system wasn't all that straightforward and I constantly had to review the rate I was on and switch between rates. Eventually they were just too expensive to continue and lost out in price comparisons sufficiently for me to make a break. I'd love a more straightforward system!

cashmerecardigans · 27/07/2018 09:25

I second Bulb, I'm a bit evangelical about them! The switch was really easy and they email me every month to tell me how much energy I use. Their comms are excellent and I love the fact I can take a photo of my meter on my phone and it uploads automatically. Plus £50 credit when you switch
My DH works for one of the big 6 suppliers and apparently Bulb are used as a great example of how to do comms!

sallyhartley · 27/07/2018 09:29

I changed to a company who installed a smart meter. It made life so much easier as I no longer had to go out to the shops to top up with a prepayment key or worry about losing the key (which I'd done more than once in the past) . Now I can top up online anytime . As for the tarrif I'm not really sure if I'm paying more than another company. I have gas and electric in my house.

MrRichTea · 27/07/2018 09:35

We've been with NPower for what seems like forever, as long as you lock your tariff in every couple of years, we don't seem to have many issues

bevmichelle47 · 27/07/2018 09:50

Used to keep swapping over to get a cheaper and better deals, but we found Ovo and they are brilliant, the energy is low, monthly payments are set low and if you ever have credit with them, they will send it back to asap. They're a amazing company and i've been with them for years now.

sezz35 · 27/07/2018 10:44

My energy supplier is ok, it was the cheapest when I changed to them.

rutsan · 27/07/2018 10:45

I'm with Spark energy and so far they seem to be the cheapest so I'm happy!

vixxx666 · 27/07/2018 10:52

Been with my current supplier almost a year and very happy. Prices have been consistently low and although did have a little bit of trouble and they came out and checked the meters haven't been tampered with because our energy consumption is incredibly low compared to other households.

footdust · 27/07/2018 11:03

Don't have any like or dislike for current provider. They have never caused me any problems so no complaints so far.
