Taking your children on a plane journey can lead to worries that they will be bored and miserable until you arrive. Qatar Airways have recently launched their new Oryx Kids Club programme, and want to hear your tips for keeping your children happy when you’re on a flight.

Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Ehab Amin, said: “Qatar Airways is delighted to announce the launch of Oryx Kids Club programme and loyalty programme for its youngest travellers, offering them the opportunity to enjoy exceptional benefits while travelling with Qatar Airways. As an airline that is committed to welcoming children and families on board, Qatar Airways is thrilled about this new opportunity to interact with our passengers, from the moment they arrive at the airport.”

Are you an expert in finding plane friendly toys? Maybe you have an ingenious and unique way of preventing boredom on long plane journeys? Do you use family friendly lounges? Perhaps you play I spy from the sky? Do you use films and games from in-flight entertainment systems or do you prefer to download favourites onto your own tablets to keep your children entertained?

Whatever you do to keep your children happy on flights, share this in the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

We are quite traditional and took a lot of mini games like connect 4 and dominoes. We also took blankets pillows and there favourite film on the tablets.
We took colouring books stickers and dot2dots.
Plenty of chewits for sore ears and Calpol which helped with my sons ear pain.
Also lots of Pringles and snacks the food on the plain is always soggy.

Lots of snacks and lots of small toys to keep them entertained as long as possible. A couple of books is useful too, preferably ones with pictures that you can play 'can you find' with them. Tablet/phone also useful!

Snacks, always snacks!
Sticker books are a big hit here too.

Minnibix · 11/06/2018 14:03

Plenty of screen time, games and family time, if the flight overlaps into night time I do try to get them to take a nap, then they are fresh and less crabby when we arrive

cluckyhen · 11/06/2018 14:19

We take cards and ipods

Helsbells68 · 11/06/2018 14:21

Puzzle books, games and music so they do not get too bored

juju3 · 11/06/2018 14:23

take some favourite toys (small) and books and use the in flight entertainment as backup

lizd31 · 11/06/2018 14:51

If it's a short journey & your kids are used to having a nap try to choose a flight time at the same time your child normally has their nap, you never know, it may just work unless the excitement takes hold. Pack snacks to keep & books in your hand luggage.

Plenty of entertainment! My daughter loves to read so we bought her a Kindle just for travelling which she loves. I also take a small pillow and blanket to make her comfortable.

We are taking our lg on her first holiday abroad this year, so my plan is to buy little things like colouring pencils/stickers/ sweets/ games in advance and wrap them up. So while shes on the plane every so often she will have something to unwrap, to keep her entertained.

sheilads105 · 11/06/2018 15:42

Wrap a series of small toys - plasticene, mini-figs, dice etc and give them to the kids every hour to relieve boredom.

compy99 · 11/06/2018 16:00

try to get flights that coincide with bedtime if possible, then hopefully they will sleep for most of it.

israrbaig · 11/06/2018 16:50

Give them an ipad fully charged with games and videos to watch.

JoJoY · 11/06/2018 16:58

I always pack a goodie bag that they get gradually during the flight. This includes colouring, top trumps, puzzle books etc.

LauraMMM · 11/06/2018 17:18

We make a bag each for the kids to take on the plane. We just go to some cheap pound shops and let them pick a few items such as colouring book and crayons, little hand held puzzles, mini games or jigsaws, felt collage kits, easy and mess free art sets and they are not allowed to open them until we are in the plane. We also take their own snacks to keep them busy. And if all else fails we have the good old tablets with games, books and movies on with their own little headphones.

liz1970 · 11/06/2018 18:14

plenty of books :)

Marg2k8 · 11/06/2018 18:22

When my kids were little, we holidayed in the UK. Much easier than flying with them.

Cailin7 · 11/06/2018 19:19

Usually download loads of films and books before travelling and take a pack of playing cards and some puzzle books

IonaAilidh11 · 11/06/2018 20:01

plenty of colouring drawing activities, snacks and puzzles

sarah861421 · 11/06/2018 20:02

something new to play with, all depends on the age , length of flight and time of night. but the bottome line is still the same. keep them occupied

maureen3733 · 11/06/2018 20:13

each child has a carry on bag full of their favourite things to do i.e. colouring or word searches

pennwood · 11/06/2018 20:16

I used to book night flights so DD was made comfortable & generally slept for the flight. When we needed to entertain her we always carried crayons, games & used the in flight entertainment. Snacks & drinks are a must too.

Pmliu · 11/06/2018 20:46

I give my little ones our iPads which are loaded with games & fun educational apps to keep them happy and entertained. I also make sure I got lots of snacks and drinks to keep them going.

sophiefx · 11/06/2018 21:10

Toys and snacks are my go to!

Gazelda · 11/06/2018 21:19

DD is 10 and loves having a guide book about our destination.
